the cab has nba jam installed and may be original. side art, etc. is undeniably "jam".

the cp pulls out to reveal the placement of the board.

the powersupply is mounted directly below the monitor and causes distortion
when closed. i will move this when i install the multi-board I plan on getting.

curious as to what was installed on the control panel before it was so heinously butchered.

It is just a generic cabinet. Cueball posted a picture of one a several months ago that was a Dragon Breed and I have seen pictures of other games in that particular cabinet design too.

Dragon Breed

I have the non-drawer version of that cabinet (with ESWAT Cyber Police artwork) and mine has a sticker that said it was made by Grand Products Inc of Illinois.

I am guessing that Grand Products designed both as a generic cabinet to compete with Dynamo in the late 1980s at the height of the JAMMA era. The drawer version of your cabinet would have given an operator easy access to the PCB in order to swap out the game without even moving the cabinet away from the wall at the location. Both of the models allow for easy monitor rotation and originally had extra parts to install the monitor at different angles. Your game could have been five or six different games before it became NBAJam which is probably why the control panel is so butchered. There might be some old artwork underneath the NBAJam CPO if you are really curious to find out what it was.

Grand Productions apparently had a contract to build some cabinets for Sega in the 1990s like Virtual Racing and also produced a few games of their own like Slick Shot.

You can probably tilt the monitor up like mine, but it will depend on if you still have the original hardware in the cabinet somewhere. Both my ESWAT and cueball's Dragon Breed had extra hardware for tilting the monitor down like your NBAJam. He posted this pic on the other thread:
For you, the picture above would show you the pieces that would have to be removed. However, I do not know of a picture like that showing all of the hardware you would need to tilt the monitor up. I am actually not sure where all of the parts in the photo above go since I have never tilted my monitor back like yours is and there is no cabinet manual. I can try to point out some of the other parts on my game- it might be more helpful to see the pieces like this anyway so you can get an idea of where they go.

There are two angle irons mounted between the cabinet and the plywood around the monitor. One on the left and one on the right side:

There is a 90 degree black bracket at the bottom of the glass monitor bezel on the inside of the cabinet and one at the top of the glass on the outside. It looks like you may have the one at the top already. Here are a few close up pictures of mine:

If there is another photo of anything you need, let me know. I am not sure if there is any other hardware parts you would need since your cabinet is a little different than mine with the control panel drawer - cueball may be a slightly better source of info if he has his cabinet still since he has the exact same model as you.

It is a 19" monitor. My monitor is a Wells Gardner 19K7600, your monitor might be a 19K7900 (aka WG K7000 – the 7600 has a universal mount frame and the 7900 has a shelf mount frame but are electronically identical). There might be a sticker still on the monitor or you can check on one of the chassis identification pages (like bob roberts) to be sure.

wow this is really great

thanks. i need to digest this info while i dig into the cabinet tomorrow.

i'll get back to you and may look up this other gentleman you've referred me to.

thanks again!

You can probably tilt the monitor up like mine, but it will depend on if you still have the original hardware in the cabinet somewhere.

so i took the cabinet apart today and the two angled brackets are nowhere to be found.
looks like i'll have to deal with the screen tilted down for the time being.

thanks for your help. you let me discover the true intentions of this cab.

apparently the board attached to the monitor was to make flipping the screen form vertical to horizontal very easy. unfortunately when the last person switched it to horizontal, they placed the board too far back on the runner and had to lop off a good section of it to accommodate the back panel being closed!

It's a very versatile cabinet, great for doing conversions. Too bad someone cut the plywood around the monitor. Oh well, NBAJam is a good game - I actually have my NBAJam PCB (and NBA Hangtime) installed in my ESWAT cabinet right now too until I have room for a four player cabinet.

Those angled brackets may not be too hard to replace. Places like Lowes/Home Depot sell short lengths of angle iron like that - the only problem is that you would have to be able to drill some holes in it. You might actually be able to get away with using 2x2 lumber instead but I can remember exactly how close the two holes are to each other and if they would intersect.
