I bought this press photo from ebay. It is dated July 3, 1976. Two boys playing Death Race in the Seattle area during the time that this game was causing a firestorm.

I was curious if these kids were members here now?

Possible, but I doubt it... most members here were still sporting diapers at that time... Neat article though.

I was gonna post a thread like this... was wondering if this is anybody here... this pic was supposedly taken at a St. Louis bus station 81-82ish...

Now, if you're looking for other vintage arcade golden age news clippings, I have these scanned to disc... gotta hang on to the originals. Pretty sure the ugly pizza-face dude on BZ is a member here...

That is me on the Donkey Kong.

Ok, not really, but I have been to that bus station and it is a pretty scary place (second only to the one in Chicago).

I love stuff like this. Thanks for posting these. Coulda been me on that Death Race...but I never sported a white afro like that back then LOL

What a trip... this thread has prompted my drug sodden memory. I was 13 at the time of the controversy. Most of my arcade time was at Aladdin's castle at east towne mall in Madison WI... Anyway, I remember my Mom asking me if I played death race, and she told me about the goings on... I said I didn't play the game, and I didn't like it;) not that she was really worried about it...

Here are some links to other newspaper articles from that time/event... interesting stuff.

that article in the original post has the name "Liddell" written on it... there was a local collector and world-record holder Eric with the same last name. he has since moved to California, i believe. i'll see if anyone can get a hold of him. i think he's a few years older than me which would put him at about the right age.

I thought this to, but if you look at the bottom of the article the photographer's name is pete liddell...

didn't see that... hard to see some details on my phone.

thanks for pointing it out!

then again, maybe his dad was a photographer and took the picture of his son.

Hey, hey! Thanks for the heads up Brian. In 1976 I was an 8 year old kid living in Traverse City, Mich. My local arcade was a Papa Js pizza. So as much as I like running over gremlins... It was'nt me... maybe cousin Chuck? =P
