Cost to convert a Major Havoc Tempest to a Dedicated Cabinet

Hi.

First, I am primarily a pinball collector. However, after acquiring a Major Havoc (Tempest) Conversion, I have been infected with the Vector bug. ;-)

Since I have played a dedicated with the roller, I decided that I would like to have the roller on my conversion. So I found one from a local collector, and I plan to try the swap in October.

This triggered the idea to consider a full conversion from an upright to a dedicated cabinet.

The dedicated cabinet is available as a reproduction. The CPO and Cabinet Art is available.

What other parts will I need to successfully "re-create" a dedicated MH?

After pricing the cabinet and art, I believe that I need to be 100% sure that I can get all parts before proceeding.

So if you have attempted and/or completed this type of restoration, please reply with the inventory of parts that were required.

I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks.

Marcus

Another HAAG import, eh?

All the hardware comes to mind (control panel, marquee brackets, monitor mount hardware, hardware to hold the monitor glass and the glass itself, different coin door, probably a vent or two for the rear of the cabinet). Then there is the special ribbed t-molding for the base (which videogameparts.com sells, or may be available through eBay). It's your call, but I wouldn't paint it... thisoldgame.com sells repro vinyl that matches the black stuff Atari used to put on their games. Your harness may need extensive modifications to transfer it to the new cab and get it to reach. Also may need to make a custom cardboard monitor surround.

I would suggest you find a firefox cabinet before you consider starting.. There are about a dozen parts you need that will be very hard to find that are shared with the FF cabinet.

Finding an amp monitor not be easy. So have plan for that (unless you ok with running it off the wells).

You going to end up spending about $1500 on the project plus 20-40 hours of your time. You might be better off selling you MH for $500-$800 and then buying a complete dedicated one..

You need to change the crystals on the pcb if you want to use the roller insead of the spinner.

I originally had the thought to find a dedicated. But after searching, most are $4,000+. I think I would rather spend the $1,500 + my time and end up with a Dedicated for about $2,000.

With that said, if anyone has a non-working but complete dedicated Major Havok for $1,000 - $1,500 please contact me. You and I can do some bidness!!

Without considering what you want to do with the guts of the machine (Amp vs 6100 monitor), some parts you need are as follows:

Control Panel (Takeman may still have one for sale.)

Cabinet brackets and grilles (Get on the list and support the cause: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=192209&highlight=major+havoc )

Side Ears (Extruded Aluminum speaker covers) These are tough to find, but Firefox uses the same ones.

Base molding (Chris25810 may sell you a length or some online vendors may have it. http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=195542&highlight=major+havoc+molding )

Sounds to me like it is "Major Havoc" to me.

Sorry, just couldn't resist.

You need to be very careful with the wiring. Check and recheck all voltages are correct and verify you are looking a CORRECT wiring diagram.

You need to have good wiring skills.

You have a monitor question to answer first, then you will have a good starting place. I think I would go for the monitor with the most common parts in it.
