i am going to be trying a cap kit on a k7000. also want to replace the flyback at the same time. i noticed a few different kits on bob roberts site. just wondering what kit i need? anything else i should replace while replacing caps and flyback? any suggestions welcome. thanks in advance...

If it was already working to some degree, just buy the capkit & fly together ($25.00) as the other combo kit has a HOT and a fuse included.

If the fly has white knobs, change it. If not, inspect for any cracks or goo seeping and if so, change it. If not, your call.

But then, for only a 25.00 kit and a few solder points, why not change it?

I have one that was working but would shut off after a few minutes. So only a cap kit and flyback for it, correct?

I have another that has no neck glow at all. What kit should I get for it?

Shutting off does not usually = bad fly. That sounds more like shutdown.

Again, if the fly has white knobs, replace it. Otherwise I'd leave it, unless it's cracked or burned.

ok. what about the one that dosen't even power on. what should i replace on it?

anyone? what all should i do to try to fix a monitor that won;t even power up? on bob roberts site, is the the"K7000 Flyback Repair Kit" the same as the "K7000 Flyback & Cap Kit" with additional parts? any help is appreciated as i want to place the order tonight...

Remember this, by the time you get the 7000's working, you will have the board ingrained in your head forever. You will become one with the board. The board will try and fight you, but you will win and it will know it's place.

one can only hope. i just need to know what to order. ha, i think i can it, i just want to get the right damn parts, you know...

:) well I hope that happens to me too because somebody gave me an old megatouch for free and I have no neck glow either.

Easy buddy...only an hour and a half between posts there. Some of us were eating dinner and whatnot.

re: the dead one - have you checked the fuse? If it's okay, have you metered the B+?

Same with the one that's going into shutdown - have you metered the B+? Keep the meter on there when you turn it on and note the voltage, and leave it on there as it shuts down. I bet the voltages goes rapidly one way or the other.

I just jumped into the middle of this thread with a similar problem ( no neck glow):)

I will measure the b+

Thanks

have checked the fuse and its good, but honestly, i am not sure where to check for the B+ voltage at on here... both are k7000 chasis...

If you are standing behind the monitor, Set your voltmeter to DC 200v, on the left side of the chassis there is a big white rectangular resistor, put one lead from the voltmeter on the terminal of the resistor closest to you and the other on the frame. There is your B+. These chassis are great for learning because they are such huge pieces of shit. Especially check the PCB for trace lifting.

I'm going to check it in a little bit too. Most of the caps look could and I don't see any cold solder joints. Is it common for bad caps to cause you to have no neck glow?

I think C57 is the one that causes the most probs cap wise, but in my experience it seems like it is always a bad trace or resistor causing no HV.

It's possible, but I'm betting other things are happening. Heater voltage comes right off the flyback. First thing I'd do is check the heater pins on the neckboard, and follow that path right back down to the flyback. Check for broken solder joints. In fact, you're going to cap this anyway - when you're capping, since your iron is already hot, spend 15-20 minutes and hit every damn joint on the board.

Pay special attention to the joints on the larger resistors...and go ahead and cap that board for starters, just get it out of the way before you go trying to troubleshoot other issues.
