Copying and writing Eproms - Need Hardware recommendation

Hi all,

I am looking at copying some of my existing eprom and security Pics and burning them for a backup copy and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for the hardware to get. Most of my games are the late 90s Midway and Atari variety ( Seattle and Vegas hardware) so mainly concerned about reading and writing those but would be nice to copy any future games I get as well. Anyone have any experience with the below hardware:

Is the same hardware used to burn the boot eproms and security chips? Anyone have any links that show how to burn eproms/security/sound chips from the mame ones? Also where does everyone get their blank eproms from?

Sorry for all the questions but thanks for the help!!!

I have been using the pocket programmer for about 10 years (an older version) and love it. I've burned everything under the sun with it with no problems:

Not the cheapest but you might find one on ebay cheaper. I have the parallel port version and it still works great after 10 years.

You'll need an eraser too. I got one like this from ebay when my "good" one crapped out and it's been working well:

The Wilem programmers are the cheapest and a lot of collectors use them but there are plenty of caveats with Wilem programmers. Especially older stuff like 2532.

If I were buying an eprom programmer today I would seriously consider the Wilem because they're so cheap but I would want to be sure that I can program 2532 with it before buying one. It's a very common EPROM in arcade/pinball games.

I have a Willem also but my favorite is my Data I/O 29B. It can read and program Proms and other older chips.
The Willem will program some security chips but unfortunately it doesn't support the one I need to program. If you check Ebay out, it will show you what chips it supports.

If you're looking for Eproms, you can usually find them on Ebay. You can also get a UV light to erase the Eproms you already have.

Thanks for the help so far!

So I compiled a list of chips that I am looking to copy for the short term:

PIC16C57-xt/p
27C160
27C040-12
M27C256B-10F1
M27C4001-10F1

For the Wilem, it appears from the supported list on Ebay that it only supports the 27c040 and the M27c4001. Anyone with a Wilem know if the other 3 will work or if it isn't in that list it definately won't work?

The pocket programmer looks pretty good and appears to support the above 5 with a couple of adapters but will come out to over $500 with the adapters. I was hoping to not have to spend quite that much ;)

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again for the help!!

Security chip is not a simple read/save/write. Those are a whole new level. Toplessz already have some completed. He would not do it again if he knew the BS :)

How so? Do they need a special programmer or chip or something?

I'm running the pocket programmer II 2 USB, and it works good. My major complaint is that it does not run on Windows Vista. (last time I checked anyways)
