Coolest Pin for the money

You have to play them and find out yourself. Go to a place selling them play a few and make your decision. Everyone's interest is different, so if someone said get "hook" by data east and you did but dont like it, who's fault would it be? Got to try them yourself, find one you like, your kids like, and the wife. You should be able to find a good pin between that amount.

What is the coolest pin you can buy for between $1500-$2000 dollars. I want to grab one but I need some suggestions.

In that range specifically, it depends on what you are looking for. If I needed a pin with great Gameplay/Rules and wanted depth, but didn't focus on art/sound as much as gameplay, my list would be something like below (In order)-

1) World Poker Tour
2) Whitewater (Great art)
3) Revenge From Mars (Art and sound are awesome)
4) Roadshow
5) No Good Gofers (Great Art and Sound)
5) Star Trek the Next Generation

There are a lot of lesser priced games that are similar, but for myself, I tend to gravitate towards this range of games as they provide a very deep ruleset for less money as other titles...

I haven't seen a Whitewater for under $2k--maybe close to that. Agree with Roadshow; would add World Cup Soccer, Demolition Man, and Starship Troopers to your list.

Okay, I recently got a MINT Johnny Mnemonic pin for my father in law. This gave looks and plays BRAND NEW. Yes, the movie sucked, and some of the voice calls arent teriffic, but damn it's amazingly fast. It's a great playing machine. He loves it, and I love playing it too.

I thought it was a great price for a later model DMD Williams pin.

Give one a try, in my opinion, they are pretty cool.

That's a good price range, plenty of great games. When you throw out those numbers are you looking for a shopped, ready to go game, or something that needs a little work? That will push the price range around. I'd say go with a dmd game, I think those are more fun and are usually deeper games that will stay fun longer.
A good place to check for games in your price range is bostonpinball.biz. They have a list that tracks ebay sales, a pretty good baseline for machine values. Download the list and sort by price. Then go to sites that rate machines popularity, popular machines are usually there for a good reason, overall fun games. Of course you need to try them yourself, doubtful you'll actually like all the popular games and you might really like some not on the list. I'd check:
http://www.treasure-cove.net/ top 50 games list and
http://pinside.com/pinball/top-100
for the top rated games and compare them to the average price list. Based on the price list and a 1500-2000 budget I'd recommend (not that I like them all, but popular)

Fun House
Indy 500
Road Show
White Water
Tommy (best one I'd say)
Pinball Magic
Fish Tales
Batman Forever
Jurassic Park

There are a bunch in the 1000-1500 dollar range that are fun and good values to. Look those up for the rating. If you're not in a hurry keep an eye out and you can usually find a great deal on games that would usually be out of your price range. Of course it seems those deals show up when you don't have the time, money or room to chase them down.

The Shadow, period. It's right in the middle of your range, deep, fast, fun and just plain awesome.

You have kids? or are you single? I played it at the hall of fame in vegas and it's kid friendly but for adults (I'am 40) no interest, for me anyway. If you have a family with little ones then get it, I mean its still pinball!

I would add Judge Dredd to that list. The pin came out before the movie, but the voice sounds like Stallone's. It's fast and has Super Game as well.

There was a Twilight Zone here recently for $2k, which I missed because lack of fundage. World Cup Soccer and Getaway II are next on my list unless I can pick up a few older pins for less $$.

All of these are in Canada-eh but sometimes you have to be willing to drive far to get what you really want. Nice thing is prices are in all canadian.

I haven't seen a Whitewater for under $2k--maybe close to that. Agree with Roadshow; would add World Cup Soccer, Demolition Man, and Starship Troopers to your list.

I never played a Demolition Man till this past Sunday at my buddy's place who has 20 pins in his collection. It's different and you an option of using the top mounted guns to control the flippers. He told me one in decent condition could be had for around $1500-1600cdn.

The Shadow, period. It's right in the middle of your range, deep, fast, fun and just plain awesome.

The Shadow $2000cdn

What about Super Mario Pinball???

Super Mario $1200cdn

There are also other pins here for sale that are within your budget like Space Station which is an interesting table and the pics of it look pretty good considering the table is over 20 years old.

World Cup Soccer and Getaway II are next on my list unless I can pick up a few older pins for less $$.

The Getaway High Speed II $1600cdn

Sorry if these are a bit far for the OP but you never know. Good luck on your find and as you can see I am a lurker and just waiting before I pull the trigger to get my first real pin. For now my virtual 3 LCD pinball with over 160 tables including all the ones listed above is keeping me happy :)

The only thing you should be taking away from any of this thread is people are recommending what they like. This means you should actively seek out these machines and play them. It does not mean run out and buy them. I almost bought a Whitewater and found one on location and played it. My wife and I were both UNDER whelmed. I then read the rule set, went back and popped in another $20 and still was under whelmed. Thank god I was able to cancel out of my order.

And most people (including myself) have made the mistake of playing a handful of games on a machine and turning their nose up at it. Download the rule set, read it and then go play it. And before you make up your mind spend a MINIMUM of $20 playing that machine. Otherwise you'll stand there shooting ramps or holes and let's face it - that alone gets boring in no time flat. We all want to get to that "next step".

In closing there are MANY MANY AWESOME titles out there for $1500 or less. Don't buy into all that (A-LIST) hype. A great pin can come with a great price tag too!

WPC94 gets my vote - all ages love this game

Johnny Mnemonic is a great sleeper pin, thus prices are low. It has plenty of replay value, difficult with a pretty large ruleset and depth.

The machine should keep you entertained for years.

You can't go wrong with a lot of the System 11 and later games by either Pat Lawler or Steve Ritchie.

Whirlwind (I LOVE mine)
The Getaway
High Speed
No Good Gofers
Earth Shaker
Terminator 2
No Fear
etc. etc.

Find a pin that appeals to you, do the research, watch YouTube videos, and read reviews at IPDB.org then make the plunge. There are so many great pins out there. It's a wonderful world that is full of so many amazing designers. It's just so different than the video game scene, and in a good way.

I have yet to make a bad pin purchase, but I researched heavily. The three I have will never leave my collection - EVER.
