Cool Japanese jamma games I should be on the lookout for?

If anyone cares , we at the international Shmups forum just finished our yearly voting on the best Shmups of all time .

Raiden Fighters Jet at #9. :) Love that one as well. Quirky scoring system and so much replay value with the different jet types. I recommend finding the 360 release of the series...it is usually only 20-ish bucks.

RS is probably the most popular Shmup with gaming fans , not so much with dedicated shmup fans .

Good game though .

This is a perfect example of how people within a limited community group (just like here on the KLOV) tend to gravitate towards what people talk about "a lot". I have personally never played Battle Garegga, but after watching a video of it on YouTube, I can honestly say that (although it was CLEARLY voted as the "best" Shmup on there) there is NO WAY that I would prefer playing that game over ANY of the Cave games listed below it. If someone were to do a similar list here on the KLOV, I'm sure that perched up at the top of the list would be something like "Discs of Tron" instead of, say, "Robotron". Even though MOST people on here don't own or play/enjoy DOT too much, it would end up getting lots of votes because people like/love the "idea" of the game. And it is sought after and just "uncommon enough" for people's ears to "perk up" whenever it is mentioned on here. But given the choice of playing either DOT or Robotron, I guarantee that most of us would end up going back to play Robotron again and again...

I'm sorry but I'm not touching this one , let me just leave this here :

Last night I played Pink Sweets (PCB version) for the first time and it was very fun. The theme is a bit "cutsie" for my taste but the game is very fun. Even with the cutsie theme I think it will take me awhile to get bored of this game.

I read about the different modes but I have not tried them yet. Lots to try..
There is also an Extend mode and a Harder mode I discovered but didn't try them much yet.

Mind if I ask how much that set you back? The prices on Cave games are kinda ridiculous.

Yeah they are expensive. The only way I can afford to play Cave PCBs is to buy one and play it for a few months and then sell it and get another one. You can usually sell it for what you paid so it is really like a free rental with a big deposit. lol

I recently found a crazy deal on a Pink Sweets kit so I had to jump on it.
So now I gotta sell my Guwange PCB. Anyone want to buy a Guwange PCB ? :)
Comes with instructions and dip sheet.

Taito Gnet board FTW

I just got my Gnet board with the cf mod and it is awesome. I thought I had some problems but I had to just adjust the monitor pots to the gnet color bars and grid pattern and then it looked great.

Lots of good games for a decent price. I heard there might be more games coming out for the modbios also.

I was hoping that this would be a fighthing game thread. In that case, I was going to bring up Darku Tenishi and Last Bronx.

As far as shumps go... I think that Border Down and Trizeal (Naomi/JP DC) are often overlooked.

Border Down is really fantastic. Haven't tried Trizeal.
