So is it favorable to have the athletic cut for the XXL's?

I seem to remember 70's shirts begin smaller than todays sizes. Of course all the 70's shirts I ever wore were already at least 10 years old and most likely shrunk to no end from a million washes.

T shirts from the 70's that I wore were a more fitted cut. The stuff they make now the sleeves kinda stick out like pointed wings mid arm and its like a damn tent around the belly. I've been able to find a few stores that carry what I want in a " classic" fitted T shirt but novelty shirt makers seem to want to focus on the more plump masses.
