Just looking for some clarification. I've got 3 different versions of the roms that are needed to convert the board from 2 to 4 players but was wondering what the differences are and which one would be the right ones to use. I've got:

"X" version (963-x21.j15, 963-x22.k15, 963-x23.j17, 963-x24.k17)
"US set 1" (963-r21.j15, 963-r22.k15, 963-r23.j17, 963-r24.k17)
"US set 2" (963-j21.j15, 963-j22.k15, 963-j23.j17, 963-j24.k17)

I just want the regular US 4 player version. Which are the ones to go with?

The correct answer is to load them up in MAME to test out the 3 different ROMs to get the one you want.

The differences are likely start button to start vs coin up to start (think 2 shared coin slots vs 4 dedicated slots.)

I've used the 'Oceania' ROM set, and it worked fine.

I was unable to find the US version, and I think the Oceania (i.e., Australia and South Pacific) is basically the same set, but with the DARE/anti-drug splash screens removed.

Where did you get these US versions? I'd be interested to grab copies. I looked all over, and couldn't find them.

He's wanting to go from 2P to 4P... so he's looking at which 4P ROMs he needs. I agree... Oceania is the usual 2P ROMs I go with.

Regarding which 4P ROM to go with, I usually do the plain tmntu set... though I don't know the differences.

Ah yes, my bad. You are correct.

We'll start with: what cab do you have?

0 coin slots (see free play hack)
2 coin slots (get start button version)
4 coin slots (get dedicated coin slot/no start button version)

Both the Simpsons and the TMNT freeplay rom hacks have given me problems.
Interesting... that's the first I've heard of it. I personally run the Simpsons one all day (and gets played all the way through several times) during my arcade parties and never seen any issues. I played all the way through TMNT on the hack as well.

I'd be interested to hear more details on the problems you've had... probably not hijacking this thread, but either by PM, or maybe in their respective Free Play ROM threads.

Dedicated TMNT cab, so 4 coin slots. I wouldn't mind the free play hack roms if anyone wants to be kind enough to point me in their direction....
