I'm kicking around the idea of converting my poker machine into a Multi-game. Poker machines aren't worth jack, so why not?

With that in mind, I'm looking for advice, and knowledge.

I'm not looking at MAME, but xxx-1 boards. Are these things Jamma? How many buttons/joysticks/etc can they handle? Can you disable games by screen orientation? And finally, which boards do you recommend, which should be avoided, and about what do they run?

Thanks for any/every bit of info.

Just put up a few kits on site....
Suggest the upright multi package with 60 in 1 for the price...

Best bang for your buck. I'm assuming that the monitor would be vertical. If not, the Pandora 3 would need 2 joysticks and 6 buttons each of horizontal. Would there be enough room for that?

The monitor is natively horizontal, but can probably be flipped and mounted vertically.

The control panel will have to be custom made, and the front of the cabinet modified anyway because of the "flip down" panel that's there. So, I can always make it big enough for what's needed.

I like that kit you listed, it's got everything in one package. Thank you!

Yes, it depends on how you want to convert.
I see those machines on CL as a 60 in 1 a lot. You have a pic of what you're working with?

Chopperthedog did the best poker machine conversion ever IMO. He made it into a MultiWilliams game:

Wow. That's way cool!
That CP is built out perfect...and the art.
Nicest one I've seen in a long time!

Those little poker cabs are pretty awesome.
Almost like a cabaret. ;)

Yeah, they are like cheap cabarets! Phetishboy did a Ms. Pac custom one as well for some charity auction that also came out nice. They just take some work to make them look right.

I remember Phets charity project. That was done amazingly well.
That means the monitor could go vertical. But looking at the defender one, that CP layout is perfect.

All comes down to what you feel like building. Now I'm thinking of finding a project and putting in a cheap 19 in 1...

Imitation is a form of flattery, no? :p

Took some digging, but yes, I do:

This is going to be my "test run"... my "experiment", if you will. I still have access to two more(pictured below) that I can also convert.

That looks amazing! Very inspirational those pics!

Do you have a link to that? I could probably get some inspiration from that as well.

Thanks for the input, guys!

The new 645-1 pcbs have pretty much all the good horizontal fighters on them. They also have some vertical Classics that are played horizontally. They're not horrible if you just want something that 95% of the people could play and enjoy.

My kids love it and they're cheap.

Well, I just talked to the guy who has these. I'll be bringing them here tomorrow.

I'll also be getting pics of the juke boxes he has.

My wife will be "releasing funds" for these projects after all of our bills are caught up. So I'll just be in the planning stage until then. But, I'm figuring a month or so.

Where's a good place to get CPOs done, and what kind of price range am I looking at? Not sure if I'm going to invest in side art.... I guess that would depend on cost.

Any and all input is appreciated.

I am just now finishing up my poker machine. I got the machine for $40 and purchased a kit from HighScoreSaves. It took me a couple of days to remount the monitor and install the kit. When my bezel and CPO that I got from GameOn Grafix for $91, I can complete it and put it on the row.

I've done this, and I'd be happy to assist. PM me for details.

Will do. Thank you!!

Post a pic. I'm really curious what you did.

Here are the two I literally walked here. They are light, compared to Atari cabs.

One lacks a power cord, but I was surprised to see they had back doors. Got a few locks to drill out, but no biggie there.

I finally finished my poker cab, except for the cover over the dollar bill acceptor. I kept it to one button because all of the games I remember playing only had one button at the most. I probably have around $275 into it and a lot of time.
The electronics was the easy part. I had to remount the monitor vertically and clean off the glass for the vinyl overlay. The control panel was the hardest to do. I filled in the panel with bondo. The joystick that came with the kit was short and the panel was 3/4" thick, so I had to get out the belt sander and sand it down real thin.
It may not be showroom ready, but it is for my personal use and I am fine with that.

Looks nice. I think I'd have just purchased a $7 long shaft zippy instead of belt sanding, lol.

So what is the ultimate goal with these, are they for resell or for personal use? If personal are you going to do one vertical and one horizontal?

If for resell what is the target sale price?
