Any other PC gamers have a hard time playing FPS's on a console?

I just cant get it down. I need a mouse and a keyboard!! I'm getting my ass kicked on Battlefield 1943 for the PS3.

If I had a mouse and keyboard....it would be a different story.

My kids are loving the fact dad is getting "pwned" or whatever it's called...

I don't play FPS games on consoles, I just can't get over the lack of the mouse and keyboard. I mean, I do occasionally play, especially if it's a game that has a focus on single player, but it's rarely high intensity stuff, and it's never multiplayer. I also hate watching my crosshairs 'snap' to enemies thanks to auto aim...

It's not that console FPS games are bad, I just generally don't enjoy them as much. If I could plug a keyboard and mouse into my Xbox I would crush people in multiplayer :D

This is a never ending argument. I enjoy both, but do agree that mouse/keyboard is the way to go. Most people I know buy them on 360 though, so that's where I usually play them these days. But yeah, multiplayer is frustrating as hell so I don't even bother.

In two words. Hell yes. Played FPS on PC's before consoles even thought about it. I have tried BF,COD, HL, CS, etc.. on those shitboxes, no f'nway. I will stick to my PC for gaming. Better graphics anyway.

PS3 is my Blueray player and Netflix watcher.

I've been playing BF1943 for the last 2 days (my days off) and I'm getting better, but DAMN!

I do well camping out in an AA gun on a carrier. Gets boring though. I'd tried my hand at flying and after changing the controls a bunch of times, I can fly but I just can't zero in on a plane. I never shoot down any planes eventhough it looks like I shot them a bunch of times.

Don't get me started on being on the ground and fighting. If I find a good sniper hideout, I do ok. Close combat and I just can't get it.

If they sell a mouse and a keyboard (without some sort of hack and wireless) I'd pay good money for it.

My oldest son says I "rage quit". :)

You can use a keyboard and mouse on a console (like PS3) but the translation isn't the same... meaning its not as good as using them on a PC.

I can't play FPS with a controller at all. I've tried many times and it just doesn't work... There is one exception to this, which is Black for PS2 which I can easily play all sneaky and using a scope. Any other game that requires some sort of speed, I can't do it. Worst case scenarios such as shooting myself with an arrow in Turok 64 or blowing myself up with a grenade in World at War.

On a PC I can't use a trackball, trackpad or a joystick either.

From what I remember, Turok on N64 was what finally got FPS controls on consoles "right." Or at least as right as you could. I even remember lot of FPS's after that having a control style called "Turok style."

Once dual analog sticks came out, though, the style changed again, though the logic behind it is the same.

One trick I do to get better console control is turning the stick sensitivity up insanely high, around 8-10 on a scale of 1-10. Takes a little while to get used to but helps with accuracy and speed imo.. auto aim still pisses me off though

Yeah once you are used to mouse-keyboard, it's very hard to go back to controller.

The console FPS games usually have some degree of aim assist, more lenient hitboxes or slower attacks from AI enemies to compensate for the more difficult controls.

I use a Gamepad + Mouse combination on both PC and consoles, and since PS3 uses USB I can even use the same gamepad and mouse on both platforms, so it works fine for me.

I am strange though, and always do something different from the pack; so the only advice I can offer is give it a shot. I agree though it's hard to change from something you are used to. It takes a lot of practice, but it can be done.

On a similar note, I can't go back and play Doom, Wolfenstein 3D or Duke Nukem since they all used the mouse for movement instead of just look.

Doom2 is what I learned the mouse+keyboard on back in the day. Use to connect to a local BBS and play.

A friend of mine (who is a member here) told me to ditch the joystick and learn the mouse and keyboard.

I remember it wasn't that hard to pick up and I think I had it down within a few hours.

Nothing like what I'm going through now with the PS3 controller.

I must say tho, that any FPS that has a 3rd person view is fine with me and a controller. I'm not sure why that is either. Maybe my brain thinks 3rd person = controller and 1st person = mouse? So games like GTA or Red Faction Guerilla is fine...

All of those could be customized to a point. I used the default keyboard only controls early on, but once Quake came out (or whichever was the first to really allow free look with the mouse as a standard) and I replayed the older games, I tweaked the controls to allow turning with the mouse at least.

True statement. I generally don't care for 3rd person games on PC because of this. And when I do play them, I generally use a controller.
