this should be hard, should it? im under the impression i can switch the boards without any re-wiring. i will however need the monitor to be horizontal instead of vertical. how does one go about doing this? is it complex or as easy and literally turning it on its side and maybe screwing in a couple braces...

It can be "as easy as turning it sideways and screwing it in" but it depends on the cabinet.

Once you discharge the monitor and get in there and poke around a bit. Remove the monitor even, you will be able to see how "easy" or hard it will be.

did a quick search and it looks pretty likely the 56 pin version of commando may be plug in play with GnG but there is also a different version of a commando board with less pins that is not compatible. Beyond this there is the monitor issue but that's not a big deal. I'd be more concerned that the pin out is correct so you don't damage a board.

I can't answer on the harness but I did this exact conversion not too long ago and it worked out pretty good! The cabs are almost identical.

To turn the monitor you'll have to cut the cab. I made some measurements and used a rotozip to get started, and then switched to some type of dual-sided (Asian?) saw my dad had that worked great to cut the sides. It's a pain to get power tools in there.

On the control panel, note that Commando buttons are offset to the joystick so a normal gng cpo will not work. I may try drilling new holes tho.

Go to www.junknet.net/arcade and my gng I think is the third game in the gallery. There's all kinds of pics. Ignore the extras at the end that got mixed in.

Oh btw the Gng bezel fits good, as does the marquee but it will sit low unless you add a tack/finishing nail to help hold it up under the marquee bracket.
