Hi Guys

I have bitten the bullet, and started to totally rebuild an Asteroids Cabinet, which had gotten a bit old and shabby.

I figured as I already have a working Asteroids, I will make the 2nd one into a Lunar Lander

Here's some pics

DISASSEMBLY (The fun part)

I am actually up to the conversion of the control panel, so watch this space as I post up the dozens of pics taken over the last few weeks

The thrust controller is almost finished too from scratch

Thanks for looking

Wow, impressive work! Do you have all the parts to make the Lunar Lander complete, or are you going to finish it as you find them?

That is amazing. I can never imagine having enough woodworking skills to practically re-build an entire cabinet! Keep us updated on your progress.

I have almost all parts, I managed to find them over the last few years :D

The only part I don't have is the 5K resistor pot

Still to make the Mission Control Panel, But I have high res pics

Put in some T-Moulding

Put the sides on the base

Started working out what's involved with the control Panel Conversion

I ran some thinners over the panel to make paint removal easier
Amazing what you find LOL

And more cleaning

Taped it up to measure where the holes will be

Not a bad outcome, the 2 smaller switch holes centre top will removed totally.

I do have to fill a few 29mm holes, but I will use the mig to tack on little fillers

more pics

Made a template to scale which will be used to get it all exactly right

Made some little plugs and migged them in tonight

Grinding till 8.30PM :D

Welding in the dark LOL

Not a bad outcome, I cant really weld that good, but good enough

Orbital to feather the paint edges - 30 yrs of paint, tough stuff

The panel is thick enough to weld without warping the panel

The inside shows the round inserts are thinner than the panel

Welded from the front too

:)

Filled in the little square bolt holes too as they are in the wrong spot too

I have had to improvise a few things on this project

The pics I have will have to be vectorised IE (Thanks to John's Arcade in Sydney for the MCP Pics and many other details, including dimensions of the thruster) :)

Huge thanks to Dan (djw90) for the high res sideart, marquee pics, measurements of the control panel and for going over and above for me :)

Dan's link is here

I was lucky to find a friend in Aust who has a LL Complete control panel.

I think he wants to do the same as you and me one day too :) Convert an asteroids, or buy a LL (Not aware of any LL's here in Australia)

Pre vectorising above, all that's done is darkening and squared up

Still some major effort to vectorise this

Sweet!!! Im back from vacation now. Let me know if you need anything else. Im very excited for your lander. I hope to see you compete for the world record:001_sbiggrin:
