I recently purchased Pipe Dream from Japan and was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to convert it easily to English? I compared the two versions of Pipe Dream in mame and noticed that the US and Japanese version appear to be only different in two roms. So would it be possible to just burn the US roms and replace them in my PCB? Anyone done this? Am I correct in this?

Almost sure it would work, If you have the tools to reprogram the roms, you can erase and try, saving a copy of the original data, if it doesn´t work, back the program to previous saved version. Or program 2 new roms... Images of mame are exactly the data of the original games

I have switched between the US and JP versions of many games. It isn't always as straightforward as just swapping ROMs, though. There are some games that came on different versions of the mainboard even though you will only see a difference in a few of the program ROMs (Bermuda Triangle and Rygar are two examples).

That being said, most of the time you just have to program the ROMs and you are set.

As long as you program the same type of chips that you remove you can't damage the board by just trying it to see what happens. If the conversion is more involved then the game won't boot, thats all.

Received the two roms from hobbyroms and installed it in my Pipe Dream and can confirm that the language is now in English. Thanks everyone for your help!
