Converting a Galaga cocktail to a 60-1- whats involved

I'm looking at an original galaga cocktail game that I want to (gently) convert to a 60-1 for my wife, she's been getting on me for not having one for her, so I want to convert this one to keep her happy.. but of course be able to convert it back if I decide to.

Do I need a conversion harness to add a 60-1 jamma board? Is the power supply for this game going to work or do I need a new power supply?

Is there a clean way to add a second button to the CP? I can always get another CPO and fill the button later if I decide to go that route, but quite honestly this will stay in my arcade for along time.

What about adding a 4 way joystick? Will I need to drill a hole out to get that to work?

Thanks for your help. Yes, I will make it easy to restore back to it's original state :)

There are Galaga to JAMMA adapters out there, I know for sure Bob Roberts has them as does Arcade Shop, I'm sure others do also. Youll probably need to add a switching PS but thats not hard, just tap into a 120v source in the cab and you should be good.

There are some funny looking "double" and "triple" buttons that are designed to fit into a single button hole. I think Bob Roberts and HAPP had them at one time, not sure if they still do. Im sure with a little digging you can find them. You could also try a joystick with a thumb trigger as a second button.

You will need to expand the hole for a 4-way.

Does anyone sell a replacement complete CP that's populated with a 4 or 8 way joystick and 2 fire buttons?

Yep, Arcade Shop has them, although I believe its around $200 for a complete populated set. Youll also need to see if your CP's are 9" or 11", but I think they sell both.

1) What do you need? A smack in the head.

2) If it's a dedicated Galaga CT, the control panels are 9".

3) It's cheaper to buy the separate pieces from Arcadeshop and assemble them yourself than it is to buy complete panels...

I'll most likely buy the blank CP and do it myself, I agree that I can do it a lot cheaper.. and I want to keep costs down on this one for sure.

So what about the rest of this conversion?
