I am normally not one for conversions, but for some dumb reason popeye has been eluding me. Recently I was able to acquire a DK Jr table that was missing the monitor and game board, so I figured why not make it my Popeye since I already have a DK Jr.

First problem was adressing the missing parts. It was missing the action button mounting hardware and the pcb mounts. Being that I just got back into 3d design and 3d printing, I figured it was a good idea to just make the parts I needed.

With all that out of the way, I started shifting focus the the control panels. On the player one panel, it looks like someone kicked in the joystick. For now I swapped the player 1 and 2 panels since it will be pressed up against another table anyway. I also replaced the dk jr instruction cards with popeye ones I got from Mike's Arcade (of which is the best). Played my first game of popeye on this!

The next step for me now is to write my own freeplay rom for this and finish the body work on the machine. The control panels have some rust problems so that will need to be addressed. The inside also has some rust problems That I wanna resolve. But that is a bit down the road.

Where the hell did you find the 18" Sanyo these things take? Also how did you turn it horizontally? I have a dk jr cocktail I run dk 3 in and yeah those monitors are super rare because they only use them in this game.

The monitor frame is square, you just physically turn the monitor and shroud. The shroud turns as well if you remove the glass.
Damn I never realized that. I only took the monitor out once to recap it and never really did much investigating. But seriously what kind of black magic did you use to find the 18" sanyo? They're supposed to be ridiculously rare. They were literally only used in this specific cabinet style to my knowledge and DK junior cocktails weren't exactly selling like hot cakes. Also I love the 3d printed pcb brackets. You probably could make them out of wood with a table saw because the original ones are wood but yeah excellent job on that.

The reason I made them 3d printed was because I am not the best with woodworking and I didn't have a safe way to make the grooves. A table saw would be the easiest way to do it but I don't have one so it doesn't work out. It was better for my fingers to just design a rail system because I would have had to make the brackets that mounted the piece of wood anyway. It's a project for another day. The rails are printed in four pieces: the rail that mounts to the table, the rail extension, and then two end caps (because otherwise it would have been impossible to get the supports out of the holes. Connecting the two pieces are also some steel rods so that it doesn't break as easy.

Oh yeah the table saw is the classic finger and hand remover. Great tool but very dangerous, when you need precise straight cuts or grooves you can't beat them. I hate using them though, always feel nervous around that blade. I wouldn't worry about cutting it out of wood for you since you made those awesome brackets I'm just saying if it were me I'd just table saw up some scrap wood and be done. I also don't have a 3d printer :50: but I do have a table saw 💪

I do see what you're saying about missing a few pieces though, maybe Mikesarcade would have them
