I picked this thing up over the weekend at Captains Auction and it was just so friggin bizarre I thought I should share it.
The cabinet is a Tank II which is a black and white game that was at some point converted to play color games. The cab is missing the monitor, but it looks like a monitor was mounted in the front of the plexi with the wiring coming up through the first hole in the CP for the player 1 joystick and held on with 2 sided tape and duct tape (bizarre).

Anyhow, I'm working on a Tank II at the moment and wanted the back door for it as well as some of the internal parts like the coin door, transformer etc for a Steeplechase projects I've got going on.
When I opened up the back door it got even stranger, to my surprise theres a complete Defender board set and power supply inside instead of the Tank II PCBs. I guess at one point this was converted to Defender (beats me how you play that with Tank joysticks)?
Further, there is a second PCB wired into the Defender harness for a Sega game called Regulus, which appears to be a kit only game that I assume this was converted to after it was Defender.
Pretty fridge strange all around, but at $50 I had to buy it.

Good save glad you saved the parts.

Regulus? Never heard of it

Yeah, its pretty much just a parts machine, but really interesting.
That being said, it was kind of like a treasure trove inside and most of it is going to go to good use.
My buddy Aceldamor needs the Defender Board set and power supply for his Defender restore.
Im going to scan the Regulus Manual tomorrow and upload it to the site (its not in the manual section).
Yotsuya is going to take the Regulus PCB and manual and I'm going to swap this coin door out for the coin door on his Stunt Cycle so it has the correct coin door. His old coin door is going to go in my second Steeplechase and some of the other parts will get allocated to the Steeplechase as well. The back door is going to go on My Tank II etc.
Not much is going to go to waste here :D

2 joystick Williams game? Maybe Robotron?? Does the rom board have special chips on it?

The roms on the board are labeled as Defender. Also, the Tank II joysticks are only 2 way.
Pretty strange way to play Defender :D

its very strange for sure, perhaps they got halfway thru the conversion and realized their control situation was impossible to overcome and decided just to use the cabinet as a storage unit
