Hey guys I found a Radarscope converted to a DK JR. I want the game but
I want to give the guy a fair offer. He has a Radarscope board but It dont work. He also has a bezel and a control panel missing the instructions. So what would be a fair price?
Thanks
Jeff

It all depends on condition. Radar scope is not that sought after, but it's not that common either.

It good shape, fully working, I'd say $500, maybe a little more, maybe a little less. I would offer less.

The real value in these are the ones that were converted, by Nintendo, to Donkey Kongs. They have TKG-2 serial plates on them and the (TRS) Radar Scope boards are converted to Donkey Kong boards (they have TKG-2 stickers covering the TRS printing on the PCB.) It's possible this was a Radar Scope, converted by Nintedno to Donkey Kong, and then converted in the field to a DK, Jr.

If it is, it probably won't have all the DK Jr sounds and have lots of hacks on the board. I recently got one like this, mostly so I could play DK Jr in my cocktail, since a real DK Jr board is too big to fit in a DK cocktail. It's missing all the sounds that are generated in the analog circuits on the board.

I by "converted in the field" I meant that they'd remove the old marqee, cp, bezel, sideart and pcb, and put in a DK Jr. marquee, cp, bezel, sideart and pcb. I know there was some pcb hacking going on back in the day but i think the pcb swap was much more common.

Ah ok, that makes more sense :) I doubt there were very many Radarscope boards hacked to run DK Jr (I may have the only one! :D ) I think mine was converted to DK first (it has TKG2 stickers on it). When they did the DK Jr conversion, they had to piggyback 4K ROM's to get the equivalent of 2764's.

It was a Radarscope and not a red DK. The plate on the back says TRS. I want this cab It would look great next to my Red DK..

Just a simple question, does he know about what he's looking to get for it. Value is truely in the eye's of the person looking. Someone may believe that I have overpaid for something, but if it is what I wanted and whithin what I was willing to pay for it then it was a good value to me.

The problem with a game like Radarscope as others have eluded to is that is isn't that popular of a game. Certainly this one fills the "sum of the parts does not equal the sum of the whole" philosophy. The parts are probably worth more than the complete game.

Just as a frame of reference, I paid about $400 for mine. It was complete but not working. Cabinet wasn't in great shape. I really wanted it more for the historical presence than the fact that I like the game.

Let us know how it turns out. It would look great next to your Red DK.

CrazyKongFan - Did I read that correctly? You have a TKG2 4 board PCB set that was hacked to play DKJR???????

Yeah, got it from ballytablewiz. Here's some pics from his for sale thread:

You can see at least one of the piggybacked EPROM's in this pic:

edit: I take it back, there's no TKG2 stickers either on the board or EPROM's, but at least one of the EPROM's has a TKG4 label on it. The rest are either have no stickers, or were replaced, or have TRS2 stickers.
