Ok, let me preface my thread with the following: Atari fans will cry over this thread. I took a converted Blasteroids cab (Neo Geo) and rehabed it to make it more neoish. Sorry, Im sure blasteroids was a great game but the cabinet is a great and has such a unique layout I felt it important to leave it as a Neo cab!

I picked up a converted Blasteroids cab from Xionist a few months ago. It works great (at least it did before I took it apart this weekend) and started rehabing it. I stripped it down to bare "wood" using a lot of elbow grease, sanders/paper, chemical stripper, a heat gun, and time.
Finally, I light sanded it down using a 220 grit sand paper to prep it for primer (Glidden Grey for Deep / Vivid Colors). Then, I went ahead and primed it. I waited about 4 hours to let the Primer dry and feel matte to the touch and painted the base a nice black. I used Behr Satin Enamel. Enamel is a good hard finish and satin isn't really glossy and gives a nice finish look that isn't over bearing when dry.
Tonight, I started on the Red upper part. I used Behr S-G-180 or Grenedine color. I found it on another thread here as being the closest to Neo Red possible. I did about four coats total to make it really complete and pop like it should. The key was using the grey tinted primer and a good number of coats. Red is the absolute most difficult color to paint because its dark yet light... make sense?
I painted in the vertical direction only, making sure I didn't get any lines. Additionally, I used a high density foam roller for all of the application (primer, black, and red). They key was to take my time and be patient. I think it came out pretty good so far. The Red isn't dry in the pictures so it may look a little glossy or uneven in places. Once it dries, it will look sweet.
I am going to rehab the speaker grill that goes at the top with a nice coat of glossy spray paint and stencil on "Neo-Geo" with white glossy paint. Since the blasteroids cab has a third speaker above the coin door, I will also paint it and stencil on the "S" square logo from the SNK logo. The stencils are being made by eccs19.
I will be letting the paint dry until next weekend (the black still feels a bit soft to the touch, although it is dry, 24 hours later), probably till early next week to tack on the new vinyl logos and graphics that eccs19 did for me a few months ago.
In the mean time I need to get the coin door sand blasted and powder coated so everything looks nice and new when I am done.
When done, I hope it will look as awesome as I am envisioning it. Pictures below:
