I haven't been able to find out why my Galaga is humming but it would seem to relate directly to the power supply since I've unplugged just about everything else in there and it continues. I also replaced the caps on the gameboard and didn't see any change.

I'm thinking about rebuilding the original PS and using that. Am I crazy for thinking I can get the old PS working as well if not better than the ArcadeShop switcher?

I prefer original and if I'm spending money I'd rather get back to that!

Yup, most of the original power supplies are just fine if you rebuild them. The reason they failed was because they were on, all day, for 15 years. That kind of fucks up switchers, too.

Try moving the speaker wire to different spots. I have found that for some reason some switchers seem to generate a lot of hum in the unshielded speaker wires. 2 out of 3 times I was able to isolate it by moving the speaker wire to a different location away from the switcher. The third time I got a different switcher and that fixed it.

Hmm I don't have hum on my Galaga with a switcher in it. I'm using one bought from Bob Roberts, but I can't imagine there's a lot of difference. I've rebuilt original supplies with success, but my Tron still had issues because of something with the transformer assembly so I ended up running a switcher even after re-building the original.
