Hey Guys,

I actually posted this in the wrong forum..How easy is it to convert a Popeye to a Donkey Kong? I'm assuming just replace the marquee, control panel overlay, bezel, PCB of course, and mount the monitor vertically correct? How much would this all cost me roughly, i'd like to sell the Popeye pieces as a set so how much extra would it cost roughly to convert to a DK?

thanks!

Bezel: $50
Marquee: $30
PCB: $150
CP, populated: $75
Power Supply (Popeye won't work for this): $50, if you can find one
Wiring Harness: $50-100 depending on condition
Vertical mount hardware: $10-40 depending on whether or not you DIY

Total for the conversion: $400-450, less whatever you can get for the Popeye kit.

I just did this. You better REALLY like DK, b/c you're NOT gonna resell it for any profit at this cost.

If you have time, just hold out for a decent price on a used DK. Less work.

True, good point. It ended up at 255 which I guess is still a good price for that machine if you're gonna keep it as is. Yea I'd like to just get a DK but having trouble finding one around these parts, the search continues

A lot of the Popeye cabs didn't come with pre-drilled vertical mounting holes for the monitor so you should probably check that out too.

Yeah, mine didn't have the vertical mounting holes either... but I took a template of a DK cab I had, and reproduced the holes on the Popeye cab.

you'll be looking non stop, you'll find one, then like 20 pop up!! That's what happened to me, but honestly my DK resto means more to me since I put a TON of work into it.

They are around you just have to grab them when they pop up.
Just picked one up. Needs cap kit and side art 100 bucks.

Off Cl

Curious, where are you located.sounds like a great deal..but doubt that was around me

No it was local Myrtle Beach. I had to drive a whole 15 minutes to pick it up. It was on cl for 3 weeks. I thought it was gone. I didn't need it but for a 100 bucks I couldn't refuse.
Keep looking you'll get one.

Allen :)

yea wish that worked for me....I live in NYC...the only type of machines that come up around here are gutted old cabinets turned into multicades. They think because they have an 80s cabinet and a $100 60-1 that its worth $1,200

Do I have a weird Popeye? I can play DK,DKJR,Popeye,Mario Bros. Just swapping the PCB's and rotating the monitor.

Mike
