I'm trying to fix convergence issues at the corner of a monitor. I've been calling places all morning (Hawkeye Picture Tube, Wells Gardner, arcade suppliers, etc) and the white strips are basically unavailable.

Some sources say they're adhesive-backed metal strips. Some sources say to use refrigerator magnet strips. Will refrigerator magnets work and provide the correct level of adjustment? What can I do since the ideal part is NLA?

The few times I've tried refrigerator magnets (I assume the flexible kind), they didn't do anything. I have had luck using real magnets.....those smallish earth magnets Radio shack sells......move them around on the bell of the tube until you find the "sweet spot".....and hot glue that sucker in place.

yeah I didn't expect kitchen magnets to do anything. I did some research today and Panasonic referred to their strips as permalloy. I suspect the goal is to use a highly magnetically permeable material so the flux from the yoke will flow through the metal, and therefore affect the deflection of the beam.

We'll see. I bought two sheets of mu-metal (better than permalloy), will cut it into strips, will insulate, and will try it out. I'll report back.

Ok problem solved! Convergence strips manufactured....

Ingredients?

- Styrene Plastic cut 1cm x 3.5in into strips
- Kapton tape (link) for HV insulation
- Ultraperm 80 metal (link) cut into 1cm x 1cm squares
- Contact adhesive to stick the metal to the strip
- Double sided foam mounting tape (link) to stick strip to CRT

I'll have them for sale shortly. Watch for details. Buy mine, or thank me with 6 packs of beer.

more

i would be interested in some... when do you think they may be available??
where did you source the Styrene Plastic cut 1cm x 3.5in into strips??

I contacted somebody with a web shop to see if they wanted to distribute these. Would be preferable since I sure don't want to fill orders. If that falls through I can just offer them up directly; it's just my least preferable option.

The answer to every other question is "by hand". I constructed about 50 as a prototype run and it was rather time consuming.

I bought exactly what you said and it worked out great. thanks for the info

I used a paper cutter to make them straight.

Only costs around I think $35-40 total and it can make a lot of strips.
