I'm trying to understand how to adjust the convergance using the 3 sets of rings.on a CRT's yoke's. Are all CRT's convergance rings set up the same? I mean which of the 3 sets moves the Red, blue or green? Which of the sets move R,G,B up or down? How do these rings work? Is it as simple as , counting tye closest set of rings as 1 and furthest set as 3, does set 1 adjust the red color? Hope you guys understand what I'm wanting to know

thanks

Most rings don't move green. You move red and blue to line up with green.

Usually, the first set (farthest from the tube) are used to line up red and blue together. The middle set is used to line the red/blue up with the green. the third set (closest to tube) are used for centering (moving the entire picture to the center of the tube).

Most (color) monitors will be the same, although i think a few have more than three sets of magnets, and you should check the manual when possible.

Obviously, B&W monitors are much simpler, and usually only have the centering rings...

not to hijack, just to get more info on the subject.
so lets say you swap tubes. whats the rule of thumb for the yoke placement? can it be too close to the back of the tube - some special distance? I ave one that I cant seem to get to stay degaussed. I think it may be with placement of the yoke. Ive moved te rings around - little change.
But to get back on topic - thanks for the info MOD on which rings do what.

If I swap a tube, the first thing I do is get some white out and mark the wedges to show exactly how much stick out from under the yoke. Then I swap them to the new tube along with the yoke, and get the spacing exactly the same. Now, sometimes the new tube has a shorter or longer neck, even though the deflection angle is the same, and the picture will look bad even though the wedge spacing is the same as the old tube.

And as Deadly stated, a lot of manuals have a setup list for making sure the yoke is placed properly. It involves cutting all the color inputs out except red to start, and goes on from there...
