My question really ties into the Dave/Atari controller parts -

Do springs loosen/soften that much over the last 25yrs? Seems like an obvious yes, but - Let's say my Paperboy controller is in pretty good shape. Compare those original springs to NOS or identical new ones to original spec. How much different will they be? Is it a definite yes to replace all springs in a rebuild, IF they are available? I don't understand how spring steel stresses and ages.

Thanks-

They can loose tension and also become stressed enough over time to break. You'll be able to tell if your springs are sloppy on the controller, especially in cases where the controller/flight stick won't return to center easily.

My Starwars Yoke springs have worn to the point where the yoke now droops off to one side instead of self centering.

Springs bend a little each time they are moved. Only a tiny bit. But it's only heat treated metal, so they wear.

Like at a squash centre, eventually the bricks behind the flat wall will dis-lodge from lots of tiny hits. [/rant] LOL
