I was curious if anyone had any good tips for those control panels that scrape the wood everytime you open them. I know it's probably just caused by the expansion of the wood over time, but man does it suck. Every time you need to open/remove the control panel you get a nice pair of scratches.

Any tips to prevent this appreciated, thanks!

If you are going to be restoring the machine, maybe either file down the edges of the CP, or sand the cabinet where it is rubbing, and try to get it so there is no contact?

Cabinet may have swollen a minute amount. That or the control panel might have bent a little bit on its hinge causing it to rub (in which case you could trial and error try opening it and bending by hand towards where it should be).

Another possibility (the one I run across most often) is that the hinge just has a little play to it. Not much to be done about that except be mindful of it and be careful when opening the control panel area (apply pressure away from the side that scrapes, or center a bit before opening and lift carefully).

EDIT: Oh, you said PAIR of scratches? Yeah that just sounds like wood expansion. Nothing constructive I can recommend that I have tried for that. Maybe cut a dowel a little over the CP size, pry at the cabinet sides and wedge it in place, then hit it with intermittent heat gun bursts and let it sit for a while and hope the wood warps outward? That could easily backfire on you though. :p
