would anyone have any idea what type of metal and what gauge of thickness is generally used on control panels?

What kind of bending brake would be needed?

Thanks...

i have used 16 gauge, though 14 is probably better to use. I didnt have a bending brake or anything, but i used some C-clamps, wood, and a blow torch to heat/bend the steel. i made a control panel for my Atari system 1 Indiana Jones. i bent a lip under at 90degrees, then had a curved radius for the edge. took me about a half hour to do and if you take your time it can look really nice.

That really depends on how its being used. Is it supported underneath with wood, like a stern cab? Is it a large control panel with wide open space like an asteroids? In general, the larger the unsupported panel is, the heavier you should go. 16ga should be plenty in most cases though. 14ga is pretty heavy duty, maybe if you have angry players!

Most brakes that a home user would have give you to tight of a radius. It is possible to modify the tooling to make the larger radius.I have a three in one that I bought for $100 off of craigslist you can also get them at Harbor Frieght for a few hundred dollars.
