Picked up a Congorilla on the cheap. Weird DK bootleg like Crazy Kong. Well, powered it up and it works but it has graphics issues. I have reseated all the chips and cleaned the legs with a fiberglass eraser so far. But no change. What do you all think? (I am aware of the 4600 monitor curl on the left...I will be capping it soon)

there are 2 rams on bottom pcb 2101 or 5101 that i would checking plus anything connected to it

Here is my board. I understand there is many different bootleg versions of Donkey Kong and I have yet to see a 2 board stack like this. The first picture is of the top board of the stack with the CPU and the second picture is the second board of the stack. I see the 5101 chips at the bottom of the second board. I have a logic probe that I could use to see what's going on. Does anybody have a schematic of this board to see what is connected to the 5101 chips?

Poked around with a logic probe on the 5101 chips and I can see that all 4 data outputs have good activity on the 5101 at 5A...however, the 5101 at 5C has little to no activity...(while the game is coined up and playing, data output 1 and 4 faintly blink low, while 2 and 4 are doing nothing...while the game is in attract, all the data outputs are doing nothing...) Does this look like a bad 5101 at 5C?

I would start by replacing those 2 first and see if it makes any changes why i know this is a issue is that i had the same type of problem on a CK awhile back i repaired and turned out both were faulty

Also check those 74LS161s out as these are fujitsu these are 74 braded series chips that common fail also :) if they seem to be OK then leave them be for now

Good luck

Thanks for the help! :) Just ordered 2 5101 chips with sockets. Will keep you posted on how it goes. Also, I will use the logic probe around the Fujitsu 74LS161s and see if anything looks out of the ordinary today.

Ok great hopefully fixes your issue :) been along time since i fixed a CK PCB so trying to remember what part of those 161 counters do again :p

My two 5101 RAM chips arrived in the mail today. Went ahead and started by removing the 5101 chip that had almost no activity on the data outputs. Soldered in a socket and carefully inserted a new 5101 RAM chip. Plugged the board back in and voila! Thank you Stoog for the help! :) Now, just have to give this thing a good cleaning..cap the 4600 monitor, and tie up some loose ends. This is a neat rare one..as I've heard that most were confiscated out of the arcades because of copyright..

I recently acquired a Congorilla as well. I was wondering if you would mind taking a closeup picture of the instruction box on the CP. The machine is in very nice condition except for the control panel, someone painted over 3/4 of it and hand drew the graphics back on. I can't read all of the instructions and wanted to confirm the verbiage. Thanks in advance.
