I just acquired a PacMan cabinet. It has been sitting in a barn (read my thread on Barn Find) for 10 years and I have yet to turn it on. I did pull out the board and saw that the 5E and 5F eproms had orange stickers on them so I figured it was a Ms Pacman (machine has a Ms Pac marquee). I cleaned the legs and plugged it into my Ms Pac cabinet. This is what I saw:

I got a chance to see the original owner again and asked him about the machine. He said it had always been a Ms Pac and nothing had been removed from inside the cabinet. I am confused because I thought all conversions had to include a daughterboard plugged into the Z80 socket. This one has no daughterboard and I do not see any screw holes in the cabinet where one had been mounted. Any ideas what I have?

Tonight I will probably pull the eproms and see what I have in there. My goal is to convert it back to PacMan but I would like to figure out what it is supposed to be.

This was the only board the cab. I'm guessing the wires are some sort of repair but maybe this is why it has no daughterboard. It is hard to see but there are wires coming off the legs of the chip marked H5 and the one below it:

That's a Pac board with the bootleg Ms. Pac conversion (two extra ROMs and jumpers) instead of a daughterboard. I believe you should be able to return it to Pac-Man by burning new 6E, 6F, 6H, 6J, 5E, and 5F ROMs and cut all jumpers.

Ah, the Crazy Otto guy! I watched your video the other day on youtube. Good stuff!

Thanks for the info!

I'm guessing that the first thing I need to do is test for voltages on the connector with the monitor unplugged. If that all checks out I'll connect the monitor and see if anything blows up. I won't convert back until I make sure I am not going to damage my board with a bad PS or something. All the machines I just picked up are pretty bad off. Wish me luck...

OK, I burned a fresh set of 6E, 6F, 6H, 6J, 5E, and 5F pac-man roms. I cut all jumper wires and removed the roms at 6N and 6P (I don't think they are needed). I swapped out the fuse holders and put the correct size fuses in them. I also did some voltage testing to the point I was not afraid to put my pcb in the barn find machine. I am currently getting garbage on the screen. if someone knows what this is I would welcome the advice.
