Hey all!

I have a Xenon with a baaad playfield.

I need to get something done, like an overlay or the like.

But I get somewhat confused...to me it seems like the inserts are scanned
and printed on the overlay and then placed over the real insert...?

Look at the blue inserts here...they are very blue, doesn't look like inserts at all.

Also on picture 9 on this link, the one where he has the overlay on the wood:

Is it just me, or are the places for inserts on the overlay actually colered solid?
Why not make them transparent at least, if the stuff it's printed is transparent?
Or am I missing something very obvious? (which could be the case)

Are there any dealers that offer good overlays, or is it the the same all over..
and what do they print on?

Sorry to be asking so many questions!:)

Thanks for you time, I hope someone can educate me on overlays:)

Nicholas

Just a heads up; those overlays are classic arcades, not CPR. CPR's playfields look stellar. No overlay holds a candle to their work.

On atop of that, Classic Arcade's overlay that was linked has the exact poor-looking solid colored insert areas the OP is concerned about. They look off; you can clearly tell an overlay when you see it. However, the price is right and to many the tradeoff is acceptable.

To answer the original question, the vinyl overlays are printed on are NOT transparent...they could just as easily die-cut out the insert areas and provide a separate kit for them BUT the reason they don't is that they would never line up properly. No 2 playfields are the same. Many find that having the lit circle shine not quite as bright and not quite perfectly under the circle on the overlay to be better than slivers of bare wood where the holes (wouldn't) all align perfectly.

If you really want to gamble that, you can always cut out the areas with an exacto.

Other than the nasty mismatched insert areas, my Classic Arcade SI overlay was good looking.

Thanks!

Can I ask how much you paid for the SI overlay from classic arcades?

And even though it has 'solid' colors over the inserts, is the feature lights still looking
good?

Also, does anyone know what the material overlays are printed on is called, and does
it comes with adhesive on the back from birth? If someone were to print it themselves,
where would they get the material:)

Thank you,

Nicholas
