Confirmed: Galaxian Cabaret Type II (lots of pictures)

That's what I'm calling it, anyhow - the "Type II".

The "Type I" would be Todd's, here:

This is the one which was originally in question:

Was it a conversion from a Gorf mini? That's what some thought. Based on the tags and other features, however, Fred (and Todd) thought this Galaxian mini (#116) was a factory conversion / dedicated machine.

Based on what's in my kitchen, they were right. I present to you, Galaxian mini #118 :D :

Sides are in good shape, but tons of smoke stains. I'm just beginning to take the Simple Green to it:

The marquee:

The monitor. Note the sticker and screens. The monitor flickers from light to dark blue; I've turned the "screen" control way down, but it doesn't change the behavior. Other than that, colors are okay:

Nice creative mounting of the speaker. Check out the wires, too. This was either done at the factory or a LONG, long time ago:

Tag - identical to Fred's, except it says #118, which is stamped in wood on the cabinet and appears on the PCB (sorry for the bad picture). I'm dubbing this style of Galaxian cabaret the "Type II" `cause the tag says "GLX II MIN":

Switch sheet:

Bottom of cab; tag says "Galaxian mini".

What's this wire go to?

PCB. Some white chips on a piggyback board:

Lower monitor wooden brace cracked during shipping. This'll need to be repaired:

Coin door. Came on free play, but she coins up perfectly:

Here are the "tamperproof screws" these Bally / Midway minis always come with. I've got a drill bit...

...but what's better? The original tool, and the bag it came in. ;)

So, there you have it - another cabaret for the apt!

Ha ha...I said WTF when you said you were gonna drill those bolts...keep us posted when you get it cleaned up and fixed.

Very cool. The more mini's/cabarets I see on here the more I want to start collecting them. Hmmm...

That is a Gorf bezel which would lead me to believe it was a conversion, but the tags on the inside suggest otherwise.

...and it's the second machine seen on KLOV configured exactly in the same way: factory tags with a Gorf bezel.

Very cool to see another one of these. If anybody ever finds one of those marquees or panels let me know as I'd like to put one together one day and can probably find those other parts.

With two identical games from different sources, I think the idea these are legitimate late run factory conversions is possible. Consider these facts:

- Both have same wrap around marquee (unlike the other dedicated Galaxian minis which were flat)
- Both have Gorf bezels
- Both have the metal bar holding the bottom of the bezel painted black (Gorfs game with polished aluminum)
- Both have two speaker grills
- Both have the "Galax II mini" tag inside
- Both have other internal tags saying it is a Galaxian mini
- Both have identicial CPs (same as the other Galaxian minis) - Would two people have really converted Gorfs to Galaxian using an original CP?
- Both have the number on the tag match the number stamped on the cabinet

This is pretty compelling evidence. Anyone have any other matching pics and hopefully the serial #s to boot? Finding a third would bring additional validity to the idea these were factory conversions.

Ha - just saw this (finally). Agreed.

I'm really enjoying playing Galaxian - far more than I thought I would.

This thing? It's not for sale; I just bought it. :D
