hi, I work in Coney Island's amusement district and have a blog about Coney. Manny Cohen of Coney Island Arcade is auctioning off extra equipment on Nov 28 to make way for new machines. But when I took a look at the auction site, I realized it makes it sound as if he's closing. He's not, so don't be alarmed! They are selling coin op games and pinball machines. See auction website for list...(I hope it is okay to post a link?)

PS: If you come to Coney on Saturday, stop for a Nathan's hot dog and the Coney Island Museum, open year round.

Couple nice titles in there, no real classics to speak of though. Thanks for the link!

I hold this is nothing like Pete's auction. Hope there is no schilling going on. I will flip....

Time for ROAD TRIP!!!

I'm not familiar with the various auction companies since I'm not a collector of video games. Joined KLOV last year when I was writing an article for Games about collectors.
For the past 3 years I work in Coney Island for the History Project and this past summer a game on Jones Walk.

Because of the closing of Astroland Park in 2008 (with 3 arcades) and the redevelopment hoopla in the news over the past few years, the general public is under the misimpression that all of Coney Island is closed or closing. This has definitely hurt business in Coney. When I saw the auction ad I was concerned people would jump to the conclusion that Coney Island Arcade is closing when they're actually just clearing out old equipment to make way for new.

Actually things are looking up for Coney beginning next season. The City of NY made a deal to buy 7 acres of land including the former Astroland site and Boardwalk property from real estate speculator Thor Equities. The City's RFP for Coney Island Amusement Operator was the talk of last week's IAAPA Attractions Expo. They're looking at a 10 yr lease with a single operator for the 7 acres. We're going to be getting a lot of new rides and attractions starting Memorial Day 2010. Hope to see you then!

Many big amusement operators including parks, carnivals and ride manufacturers are said to be forming alliances and putting together proposals. Also present and former Coney operators. It's kind of like--who isn't bidding? Some potential bidders are being very secretive, so it's hard to predict who will end up getting it. I'm just thrilled that it looks like it's going to be a Happy New Year for Coney Island!
