Anybody else restore a condom machine before?

I have a few of these in the warehouse so I decided to fix one up and see how it looks. I remember seeing these in gas stations when I was a kid. They were always a little taboo to say the least. They are made by Harmon and look to be from sometime between the mid-50's to mid-60's. They operate on a double quarter stack (50c) coin mech and have flat/skeleton key type locks.

I stripped them with Aircraft Remover and then sanded. These tend to have many coats of different types of paint. Anytime the bathroom wall was painted it seems these would get painted also. The stickers were sold in bulk with the particular brand condom/novelty you put in the machine. Many machines will have 3 or 4 old stickers on top of each other from years of being on location.

I primed and painted the machine then installed an NOS sticker I purchased online.

These stickers are frail and old. I destroyed the first one I tried to install. This one came out great with only a couple tiny flaws. All in all the machine looks great and will be cool to have on my gameroom bathroom wall as a novelty/conversation piece. I will post pics of the black one when it is finished.

Re:

That looks freaking sweet, I would hang that next to my bed. Maybe you could still make money off it on location.

That's friggin' awesome !!
Never crossed my mind to keep an eye out for one of those, but I can soooo see putting that in a gameroom restroom.

Nice work. What a sweet conversation piece. How many do you have left?

I have quite a few left and I will be selling some soon. These 2 are the test run to see how much it will cost me in time/materials to make them look nice.

I have not looked for the condoms that fit these machines but I would guess they are still available somewhere online. I assume they would need to be the old style cardboard sleeve type package. The coin mechs do work and vend properly. The skeleton keys cost $6.50 a copy. It requires 2 keys total. One for the machine and one for the coinbox inside. I am looking for a cheaper alternative for those.

Conversation piece indeed...

I wonder if there's a forum/collector's site for these? j/k...

Good job, and I agree that will be an interesting piece for the basement bathroom..

I'd love one, but I think most of the fun would be in restoring it. BTB, I liked the original graphic sticker the machine came with better. I think I can see an actual un-enhanced tit in that one. Bonus.

I like the original sticker better also but I can't get that one anywhere. I have several other stickers. Some really good ones. I was just trying to match the original brand with that choice. I see unrestored machines on eBay for around $100-$150. I might sell/trade some of mine unrestored if I get tired of messing with them.

Does it have a "free play" setting? I'd hate to have to dig around for 50 cents any time an opportunity arose. :)

Nice job on the restore. I would have thought the NOS decals would be hard to find, but it goes to show that you can find almost anything online.

Deca Decals

I have found a couple sources. Be very careful when buying these. I bought some from the guy on eBay and almost every decal dissolved and cracked into a million pieces when you got them wet for application. Not sure why his did that and the others did not but I would not buy from him again.

Second Machine pics...

Here is a picture of the other machine I finished.

Not sure if I like the black or the white better. I guess it all depends on the sticker colors. I think I will put up one of each over the toilet in the gameroom. :D

The black one looks great, but IMO it just doesn't pop like the white one. I like the contrast of the white machine in the area of the dial and the slot where you insert the quarters. On the black one it's not that noticeable.

They both look fantastic however !
