I'm thinking of doing the single ROM Ms. Pac hack using the bootleg code (for my bootleg board). The procedure is from mspaeth and is posted here: http://cambridgearcade.dyndns.org/?q=node/67

My newbie issue is working with the hex and concatenating the code into a single ROM and was I'm looking for guidance. The term 'concatenate' only pulls up a few threads. The procedure seems painless enough for me except for the combining code part.

Does anyone one know if there is a file posted of this version of the single rom hack(again with bootleg code)?

The http://www.pinrepair.com/video/pacman.htm version of the hack seems somewhat dated and also seems to be written for Midway boards.

Woops, too many tabs open.....this was supposed to be posted in Technical - Videogames - General Repair And Help.

Mods, feel free to move this.

I don't know of a single file for this, but concatenating the ROM images is pretty easy. You can use something like "FRHED" (FReeHExeDitor) to copy the images into one file, in the correct order.

Do you need to put the second ROM before the first ROM to have it done correctly or more to the point, in the correct order?

For example: copy /b ROMb + ROMa NewROM

I am trying to concatenate my 6 X 2708 Clowns EPROMs into 3 X 2716's. and are having problems....

I somehow "remember" reading that somewhere??

Yes / No ??

The order of the copy command is the order that the rom data is stored.

The confusing part is that Midway boards read the eproms from location H down to location C

So your copy command(s) should be

copy /b 2708H + 2708G 2716H
copy /b 2708F + 2708E 2716G
copy /b 2708D + 2708C 2716F

NOTE: You will changing from 6 x 2708 eproms to 3 x 2716 eproms,
but the new 2716 eproms will be in locations H-G-F (in that order)

You will have to make sure that you set all your jumpers (S1,S2,S3,S5,S6) to work with 2716 eproms.

Good luck.

Thank you SO MUCH for that info, I did not place the original 2708's in the correct copy command order!

I had the G before the H not the H before the G and so on....

I will give it another go and post the results.

Thank you again!

Jeff
