Compton 09 auction wtf?

look at the prices in the last two minutes of this video holy crap.
Why do these guys act like they are selling solid gold cabinets when they come to Milwaukee but let all these WORKING games go Soooo cheap in CA? WTF?

Haha...I know. Well, one reason is no one has money in CA, so many are unemployed, and the arcades are pretty much extinct.

And the next one is in 3 weeks...woohoo!!!

$100 working cabs, here I come!

Edit: Haha, I just watched the video. I saw the Mortal Kombat that I picked up for $75. Although, when I got it home, the monitor died on me...lol.

Well, that's pretty amazing. There's a Super Auctions coming to the STL area in early April, I might have to go if people get games at those prices. There must be so many that only like one person bids on a machine...

For roughly $1500 you could have bought the best titles and a good 20 cabs there! Amazing titles for dirt cheap. No one even bid on Galaga? Ouch.

Had to be the fact that it was in Compton. You gotta be strapped when going down there.

Its all about timing, I've been to SA and cabs were 5.00 my crossbow was 5.00. Its also California, we have a lot more games on the west coast vs the east coast, but remember cost of living out here is crazy, gas is crazy high etc so that's are trade off, we may have the game deals but what I payed for my house vs what I would have gotten in wisconsin is night and day! No reason to get upset just deal with it or move to Cali! Lol

My sister lives in California..

I do not have any desire to live in Cali, even for cheap games...

Did I mention my sister lives there?

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Except maybe for a short time near a real arcade which seem to only exist in the midwest or east coast.

Like someone mentioned, they are pretty much extinct in CA. If Tekken 6, SFIV, DDR, Drivers, Guitar Hero, Shooters, and Redemption games are what you're looking for, CA is the place to go.

Me either. I thought about moving to WA for a job at Microsoft...nope! Been to Indiana, spent about 2 weeks out there visiting a friend and it was alright, but...nope. Florida is too damn humid. I think it's hard to leave when you grow up here. It's just comfortable.

Shooters yes, SF4... never seen one, but most SFs have been there, Tekken 1-5, DDRs go for about $1800 +fees, guitar hero a few times, and always redeptions.

Born and raised in California and love it here no matter all the BS and high prices. I've lived all over the state, am settled in the central valley which is great but would eventually like to move back to the mountains(I used to be a Snowboard instuctor in lake Tahoe) I've lived in 3 different states and I always come back home! California and th west coast in general are the best and will always be home for me. How could I live in the midwest and be so far away from Disneyland!

Check out the Scandia in Cordelia it's actually a well balanced arcade. About 15 classics, maybe more. 10-15 pins, fighters, shooters, drivers, some redemption. More or less a little bit of most eras from the 80's up to now. No vectors or black and white games but other than that a bit of everything. Still has a classic arcade feel too. My only complaint about the classics is they have the DK, DK jr Mario bros cab instead of a dedicated cab of at least one of these.

Although I haven't been to the Santa Cruz board walk in years I have also heard that is a good arcade.

There's a Scandia in Ontario, SoCal :)...I'll have to check out the arcade there.

Went to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk arcade a couple of years ago. They still had a lot of classics and games from the 80s and 90s. Although last year, I do remember an op who I believe had games at the boardwalk arcade who sold off a lot of games that he finally decided to pull which included a Dig Dug, X-Men 6P, and some more but I forget. Need to make a trip back there sometime and see what's left.

Cordelia is a bit of a drive. 2 hours round trip most likely. That's good to know there is a somewhat decent arcade nearby.

Some arcades recently I went to that were totally lame:

- Sony Metreon in SF. Not even going to list the games, cause there really wasn't anything of interest. Just what I listed in my previous post.

- Boomer's in Livermore. See above.

Still have yet to go to Nickel City in South San Jose, but I heard from ataritoobin that their freeplay classic wall is full of broken games. Other than that, they have a few games worth playing, but not worth a 45 min drive for me.

Check it out. They vary as far as games though. I have a scandia 15 minutes from me and although it's ok is mainly new games. Really no classics or pins. Actually about 8 years ago the one in Cordelia was not so impressive. Not sure what turned them around but they actually went from a mediocre arcade to what I consider the best one left in my area.

I'm goin back to cali, cali cali,
I'm goin' back to cali
Hmmf I don't think so.

Bikini small, Heels Tall, she said she liked the ocean.................

It took me 34 years to escape the cesspool that is Southern California and I will never go back. Hell, I absolutely loathe going back just to visit family and friends. I'd rather eat a shit-sandwich than step foot in Southern California.

Nor Cal is nice from what I've seen... Central Valley isn't too bad (Gilroy, etc)... some of the mountain areas are nice... LA, San Berdo, Riverside... absolute shit... San Diego is getting worse too... LA far South....

Thanks SO MUCH for posting this video. It is really interesting to see what games are going for at these auctions. At one time, I would have GLADLY bid up to at least $700 on a working Robotron at an auction. They NEVER showed up at any of the auctions that I went to back in the early 90's...
