Component Level Kits

I've been trying to put together list of board level components to rejuvenate or shot-gun some boards and concluded the way to do this is with ready-made kits. But there don't appear to be kits available for all of the most popular PCBs. Between Bob Roberts and Arcadeshop I have all of my monitors covered, but there don't appear to be much in the way of kits for game boards and power supplies.

After previous discussions concerning Millipede and Pole Position I think I know what I need and where to get the components for the AR PCBs, and someone sent me a cap list he used in a Nintendo PS, but it's difficult finding kits for game boards. After all this time it would be great if all component kits were listed in one place so one wouldn't have to go on an internet search and destroy mission in hopes of finding everything for multiple PCBs. Even component lists for reference when making up your own kit for a PCB would be great.

Are there any sites that have a decent number of PCB kits that you can easily find on the site?

ARII PCB
ARIII PCB

Galaga Game PCB
Millipede Game PCB
Asteroids Game PCB
Star Trek Game PCBs

Williams Rom, Audio, Interface, & Power Supply PCBs
(Joust, StarGate, Robotron)

Nintendo Power supply
MCR Power Supply & Audio PCBs

Monitor Cap Kits

Thanks.

I'll be assembling a kit for Pac Man including sockets/resistor packs then separate cap kits for Galaga, Pac Man, and Galaxian.

After that... I'd have to look. I don't do vector games or the old Williams boards so I'd have to do some digging to put together kits for those.

Ok, any of you have links?

Determining if Bob has a specific item and finding it on that site can take a long time. It isn't always apparent what location of the "Parts Page" something may be and you have to get lucky with all the other links on his main page.

Thanks.

P.S.: I found the Williams Sound Board Cap Kit and OEM PS Connector & Repair Kit. (But I already have the Williams wiring harness Molex IL connectors' kit and I'm not sure if the PS connectors are included, so I'll have to look into that).

Thanks.

So the question is, should I just write down the cap numbers on the following PCBs and replace all of them if I want to shotgun a problem?

***And what other components should I look into replacing in general?

To begin, I'm looking into gathering components for the following:
-------------------------------------------
Joust/StarGate/Robotron: Main, Rom, Interface, and Power Supply PCBs
Satan's Hollow: Main and Audio PCBs.
Elevator Action
Indiana Jones
Time Pilot '84
Gun Smoke
Choplifter
Star Trek
Asteroids
Star Trek
Asteroids
Millipede
Galaga

Thanks.

Can anyone tell me the preferred go-to one-stop site for getting random chips, capacitors, resistors, transistors, bridge rectifiers, etc.?

Thanks.

i prefer getting the bulk of my parts from mouser ( i just ordered a ton of parts, and compared pricing to digikey, and mouser was cheapter by about 10%)

as for hard to get or obsolete parts, you have bob roberts, arcade chip, etc.

No.

Mouser is about as good as it gets for new stuff... But these games take old assed chips that are difficult to find. This is why you see sites like mine (arcadecomponents.com) and Mark C's (arcadechips.com) amongs others such as Bob Robert's selling things.

We specialze in harder to find things.

I'd figured I'd start by first putting together a list for game boards like my Millipede, Satan's Hollow, and Elevator Action when I came across quite a few components on Ebay and I was wondering if anyone has had experience buying components from there. (Unfortunately, many seem to be from China and Thailand).

And concerning Galaga, what is wrong with this PCB cap-kit? http://www.ebay.com/itm/360158809575

i would never by any parts from china/thialand.

If you looking for a Kit of different parts, Jameco does sell a Resister & IC Drawer Kits, they do contain a lot of common values.

+1 on NOT buying parts from China.

The problem is that you may end up getting remarked or counterfeit items. It's not worth the risk.

No argument here. But what about a lot of the other Ebay sellers?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of counterfeit sellers on ebay that sell crap.
Seller "Goodbuy711" has been reported as selling counterfeit parts by my employer. Ebay yanks his auctions for a total of *one day*...then they're back up again. Ebay makes too much money to delete the auctions entirely. Goodbuy711 went right back to selling counterfeits again. The corporate lawyers said "well, we did our part" and gave up.

As for shotgunning cap replacment. You need to look at an in circuit cap checker. The way mine works is it actually meaures the Z of a cap and it works great! I can test electrolytics in or out of circuit and it saves me time on the bench when I'm not guessing which one (s) to change.
