Common reason for sling shot plastics getting destroyed?

My new pin has (from what I read) the common sling shot plastic cracked?? Tru or not I have no clue.
Is the any way to prevent this from happening?

Place a washer under each post screw that is slightly larger than the edge of the plastic. It keeps the ball from impacting the plastic and cracking it. Clear washers can be purchased from a few of the pin suppliers or metal washers can be used.

I create my own protectors for my pins. Take a sheet of lexan (found at Home Depot) and a washer and trace the outline of the plastic you want to protect. Then cut out using a scroll saw.

A little effort but I never worry about breaking a plastic.

Great idea Mike. I have a few games that will probably never get official protectors made that I will do this for.

That is an excellent idea for sure Mike, thanks for sharing that tasty tidbit. I'm going to order new sling shot plastics and will be doing this for sure.
IS there any reason why a person couldn't actually make these a tad wider than the factory plastic? The pics make the lexan appear to be flush. My thinking is so it'll absorb the hit leaving the factory plastic alone.

The picture "clearly" shows the lexan is larger than the plastic. Put on the bifocals old man :p haha.

I also use the plastic fender washers to protect the bottom of the slingshots. This is where they seem the break the most...

OMG LOL
Thanks I guess my ass needs to get to the eye doctor sooner than I thought!
I swear it looks like it's a duplicate image ;)

Yeah, that's the way to do it. For a "cleaner" look you can torch the edges as shown at around 4:30 of this video. That removes the rough saw cut look.

However, I've never done it on lexan, so I don't know if it will burn or smoke. Best to use a tester piece first.
