common k7000 issues - common repairs

No by shorting I'm talking about just making the resistor go away by joining the two legs together, or removing it and installed a jumper between the two traces.

Possiby we should have a section for all the monitors we can come up with and common issues.

Not just the k7000.

Just an idea...

The chassis had been repaired for other issues prior to this problem - bad HOT, flyback, caps, etc. After it was completely rebuilt, it was in HV shutdown but showed no bad parts. Eventually I figured out that changing C36 to the proper value took care of it...

randy fromm is not too happy with me. Apparently that flow chart of his is copywrited.. DOH!!

So sorry folks but the flowchart has been removed per his request. THe rest of the info will live on though, dangit!!!!! :D

Yea, Randy contacted me as well on an old flow chart. He must have a normal schedule he checks the net with. I removed it from my site, but he still detected it on the server?!

At any rate. I probably just need to run a cap kit on my K7000, but I am having a huge problem with the focus. It is cranked all the way up, and still is very blurry. I'm hoping that's just a dry cap in a normal K7000 cap kit. Any ideas?

Well apparently your right. I went somewhere in the middle and it improved quite a bit. I guess it has to be dark and not going by what other's tell you. I think I'm good to go. Thanks for sharing.

I just had a K7000 that had almost no brightness and totally blurred picture. Cap kit fixed it good.
If the focus pot is at one end, then the B+ is low and a cap kit should fix it, if its in the middle somewhere then the tube is soft and you might fix it with a rejuve.

K7191

I have started troubleshooting my 25" K7191, it has neck glow, once I got a blurry picture. When I had the picture I could hear a reapeted ticking sound I assume thats some kind or arcing ? I knocked very slghtly on the outside of the cabinet and the picture went away and also the ticking sound stopped.

Any ideas what it could be?

I will pull the chassis next week and replace elytes and reflow the pcb se if that takes care of it.

Thanks // Carl

TICKING/ARCING is *most likely* caused by the flyback arcing itself or the anode cap cracked and is arcing. It sounds however that you have more issues then just the flyback.

CHeck the 110vac input to the monitors power connector, and check the fuse on the monitor chassis itself.

If the fuse is not blown and you have 110vac input, you might just get lucky and fix it with just a flyback. If the chassis fuse is blown however, then your fly took out the hot and possibly the v-reg, c36, and god knows what else.

edit after re-reading your post.. you still have neckglow now?? your prilly in good shape, put a fly in there man!

DO NOT to just caps and try to use the old fly. Itll blow the heck up lol
best of luck!

if you're having difficulty getting it to focus then you more than likely have a failing flyback. if the contrast or color biases are cranked, it can cause a smearing that looks like poor focus. as I've probably mentioned in 20 threads now, your contrast should only be high enough that you have no smearing coming off text, and your brightness should be turned low enough that a black screen will not visibly show up in the raster.

EDIT: now I see the date is ancient, lol. if you resolved this, disregard the message. :) this thread keeps popping up as being new posts..

Is the chassis from a 13" K7000 swappable for the chassis from a 19"? I saw an old post that said they both use the same boards (447).

itll probhably work yes but the pic will of course be too small.

can you modify it to work? thats open to debate. Im still working on that question myself. IF i come up with an easy way to mod chassis i will post..

I know now why they used the number 7000... It's the number of caps you have to swap out with a cap kit on this chassis!! Cripes.
