OK, so i have ordered parts twice in the last two weeks .. What a good list of "IC" Chips to have on hand?

Ram, Rom, etc, is a given for most inventory..

im thinking more of 74xxxx Type chips.

ie, i had to order 7406, and 74240 last week, then needed some 74ls74's, now im needing some more chips....

-----
Whats everyone routinely see die or need replacing? or should i just order 5 of every 74 family :p

Post #19 in the only sticky thread in this sub-forum.

However, my list doesn't include the first two you mentioned...

doh!, never read that thread.

74ls240 + Ba10339 (no longer stocked at Digikey or mouser now) + uln 2803A to fix battery leakage on a WPC 95 Cpu Board.

74ls06 is the driver ic for Data East Cpu/Low Current Driver Board.

74ls74 is part of the clock circuit on a cheap and squeek deluxe that i fixed, but then died shortly after holding the clock line low.

74LS 00, 08, 32, 161, 244, 245, 377
7474 are good to have on hand if you work on willimas boards. I guess it really depends on what you work on the most.

It doesnt matter how many chips you have on hand it will always be the one chip you dont have :)

Just keep a stock of scrap boards, I havent had to buy chips in three years now. I have an eprom burner that can test all 74 series chips and its rare that I find a bad one on a scrap board anyway.

I used to do a lot of work with PLC's at a school and I collected lots of 74xx chips over a few years when we upgraded. When I worked on the tron project recently, I used almost every type I had. I thing that the 74ls series is the best, altho you can get most pin compatable replacements at electronic stores/mouser/digikey. I used a few of them on coleco visions and a few ataris as well, and I found that "upgrading" them works fabulous.
