Yeah, I know I deserve it.

My SID is now a Space Invaders (as well as 47 other games). That's right, I broke down and did it. Bastardized my machine.

But in the end, not much changed. It needed a new B+W chassis, which was available from a fellow KLOVer. However, I had no clue on the working state of the tube. All I could see was the heavy screen burn on it. The cost of the 48-in-1 board was only a slight bit higher.

For anyone who was ever curious about how a multi (or any other color game) would look in a mirrored cabinet like this, feel free to check the youtube vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eKc77CeBfg

Otherwise, here's pics:

Well, while I wish it hadn't been done, my work is going to pay me to do this to an original Midway Space Invaders upright soon...

Your cab, do what you want with it. SI is an awesome cab, but I actually like the cab more than I like the game. Plus, I think the mirrored look is really cool.

Honestly, I would rather see that than these...

Talk about f'ing up some classics.

Hey, post some pics of how you mounted the monitor so I can get an idea of how to do it later...

You can send your spare parts down to me so that I can get mine up and running. :D

Wasn't very pretty. This was my first computer monitor that I de-cased. Little did I know that the chassis is held to the plastic front molding. So it's pretty much it's own bulk size and tight fit which keeps it locked in place. A couple screws thru the corner brackets for good measure.

However, if I go to resell this in the future, I'm yanking the 19" and putting in a 17". That way I can build a small MDF shelf or cut some metal brackets to mount it more securely.

my exact feeling. I've got Space invaders art all over my walls, so I've got major love for its nostalgia, but the game gets a little old.

yep, Ive been thinking about the same thing. I love my cabinet, but unlike the 60-1s it gets absolutely no play, and if I ever decide to sell it I know itll bring quite a bit more as a 60-1

Sorry... I just don't like it (and this coming from a guy who "does" multis). Part of the charm of the cabinet is the 3d black light background matched up with the black and white/color overlay output. If you wanted to multi the cab, there is a really really nice Space Invaders multigame kit that has about 10-12 different Space Invaders era games on it. This here is just a travesty (again, in my humble opinion).

I know I know. ugh. My buddy had the SI multi kit, but again...I needed to spend the dough for monitor stuff.

I have done two.

1. A Donkey Kong Cab:

Sorry I don't have internal pics. I basically put some bolts in the plastic housing of the monitor. I then ran Boiler/Plumbing Strap all over the damn place to keep it in place. I also had to do some basic wooden fab work inside of the cab to allow a better resting position for the monitor.

2. As for my midway cab:

It is kind of hard to see, but I bolted the crossbars to the plastic on the narrow sides(L&R in horizontal, T&B in Vertical) of the the monitor. I also replaced the screws holding the frame to the bezel with longer bolts that went straight through the plastic. Since the plastic bezel case supports the entire weight of the monitor I was afraid that the screws holding the bezel in would strip out.

The monitor slides in there just like the 19"er would. I used more hanger strap to hold the crossbars in place.

In both instances, I used electrical tape to black out the bezel. You could conceivably paint the plastic bezel, but I didn't feel like pulling it out (you would have to pull the controllably and everything). You don't see the electrical tape when used with a smoked front bezel.

Another issue I had with the midway was a color problem (only red) in the corner. It would be a light red/orange color. It would not degauss out. It was only really noticeable on Donkey Kong and Scramble but it drove me nuts. I suppose that it was from the ferrous washers/bolts I used. So don't use ferrous hardware if you can help it. I got the color fixed by adjusting the purity setting. (not all VGA monitors have a purity setting).

Being that it's mirrored, did you have to have to reverse the polarity of one of the yokes?

While I appreciate the pics, I am going to be mounting an arcade monitor in an arcade frame, not a decased computer monitor....

SI and SID sucks for me so I say nice multi dude.
It's like watching a Gauntlet get turned into a Golden Tee ..... I care not.

looks fine to me, would be cool if you could have a switch to turn on the black light for the moon so it looks right when playing SI
