I recently aquired a Data East Commando game and am having problems with the sound. When I first fire it up it has sound and when I start playing it has sound but over time the sound will cut out all together or it will kind of come and go before it totally goes out. I have also had it go from normal volume to where you can barely hear it. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong? Thanks for the help!

Sound chip should be near the harness plug and have a decent heat sink on it. If the heat sink is missing or really small you may want to beef it up, and/or replace the amp chip. I think it uses an MB3730 chip or something simliar.

ALSO - the -5v handles sound on a lot of boards, you may want to check that first to see if the -5v is fading.

Sorry but I have not had a chance to look at my game again. I just finished up my remodel on my house. I read your post and don't quite understand what you mean by heat sink. I am unfamiliar with the insides of these games. Can you give me the lowdown on a beginners level? Thanks!
