Come-On, Really???

It's a good game but I never really understood the price inflation. I guess it's all about what's hot and this machine is hot. It's not a very deep game and can get repetitive due to that very fact. That also makes it a simple game to learn. Toss in good flow, with great speed and visual appeal and I guess thats why it's popular. It's all about demand I suppose. Maybe some day it will drop back into reality prices.

AFM is mos' def' pushin' $10k these days. Disgusting I know. I am still screaming inside cause I didn't buy one for $4k a year or so ago. I was such an idiot. AFM is my grail pin.

I am praying that Jersey Jack kicks some major ass and all these 90s Bally/Williams pins drop like a rock because better/brand new pins will cost less.

There have been a lot of over-priced Pins on CL out here lately but none of them have sold. I've seen several that have re-posted with "price lowered" and most of them are still sitting too. The others are still listing at WAY more than they should and have been there for months. Problem is that a lot of people see that and just don't think to follow up on what has actually sold and what has not. I went out on a service call a few weeks back, an older lady had an "Odds and Evens" pin that she wanted to get fixed so she could have the auction house sell it. She told them that she had to get at least $700 for it. It had been sitting in her garage (keep in mind this is Oregon, very damp in the winter here) for a few years. As soon as I opened the back of the head up I knew this thing was not going to work. All of the score wheels had rusted to the point that they would not move, it was never going to find "zero" so the game would not start. I told them it was going to cost a lot more to fix this game than what she was going to be able to get out of it. That's when they told me how much she wanted to get for it and I laughed. I was thinking if it did work and judging from the poor pay-field they might have got a couple of hundred out of it, might have, but $700? No way...

Unfortunately that's probably not a typo. I would love to put that game next to my Revenge From Mars, but there is no way I could ever get 10k of fun out of it even if I could afford that much for a game.

And yes, that is not a bad price for it if you are willing to pay out the a** for a game. The pinball market has gone crazy!

I see lots of people ASKING those prices, but is anyone actually PAYING them. I see a lot of stuff on Ebay come up over and over and over, same with the local CL - I don't think anyone is actually paying these prices.

I believe current market value is 6-7K unfortunately. The reasons are pretty straight forward. Its a later model WPC95 that had too low a production number (3425 according to Mr. Pinball). Its also an original theme and like most Williams/Bally games, they have aged really well do to the fact that they weren't movie tie ins. Couple that with the fact that its easy to understand the objectives, straightforward to play, humorous, fun and has good flow and its going to be desirable. You don't have to be a "Pro Pinball Player" to enjoy it, although you still would if you were. And add the fact that pinball prices have become increasingly over inflated and this is the end result. Pins to be on the lookout to follow suit. Scared Stiff, Circus Voltaire, Whitewater, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. But among all of those, I think SS is the only one with a similar production amount and similar play attributes. Although, to be fair, I haven't played CV enough to say whether it has a similar flow to SS and AFM. I certainly don't think it has the Humor, but the artwork beats both AFM and SS. And the production number is lower than either SS or AFM.

Pinballz has one here for that price (10k) and yes... I'm beside myself. A new Stern Tron LE is only $8.5k.
I honestly beleive the seller isn't motivated to sell... or he's leaving some "talk me down" room.
I'd like to have one too... but I'll just make do with my RFM.

I have seen these game go from $6800-$8000 on eBay the last couple of months so I don't think the price is THAT out of hand.

Some fully restored ones are easily hitting 10K though so it's not out of the ballpark completely.

If you don't follow pinball regularly basically EVERYTHING from 1989-1998 has gone up a little and the AAA titles are going through the roof.

Tales from the Arabian Nights magically turned into a $6500-7000 pin in a matter of two months......the game was $3000 BARELY a little while ago....

I mean, I've got 45 pinballs and over 200 video and pinball has skyrocketed.

That price is about right with the work done..maybe a grand high. Pricing on pins have settled a little in the last month or so but will will probably take off again around Christmas...tax return time..etc.

I know of a AFM that was in nice original condition (very slight fade...nice but not perfect PF and no chrome) that sold for $8200 on an $8500 asking price.

An another in almost the exact same condition the sold for $8100 on a $8500 asking price.

Both of these were a couple month ago.

If this game was listed at 9k.. you probably wouldn't have even seen the add on CL
