Did someone from the board look into the Millipede in Columbus IN that's on Craigslist?

It's listed as "It powers up, but does not work properly. My brother (a computer wiz of sorts) claims that it just needs a new motherboard."

The e-mail I got from the seller says "If you power the game on, there are faint dots on the screen, but no image. The tube has been tested, and when the game is powered on, the tube glows orange. The game sounds do work.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the circuit-board.

A member of VAPS (Vintage Arcade Preservation Society) actually just came by to check it out and he supported that claim after fidgeting with it for a moment."

I'm thinking the monitor chassis might just need a cap kit. Faint dots sound like extreme vertical collapse. Love to hear if another forum member was looking at it. Don't know how they could know it's the "motherboard" within any image.

I noticed it had a filter board on it. Knowing how bad atari connections can be, remove it and try to plug it in directly. Although it's probably just a power issue with the AR board.

milli in columbus.

I looked at the milli in columbus in.

The game is 1 on a scale if 1-10 (10 being best).

cab is shot, seen plenty of water.

roller needs rebuild.

board may need some work. a/r board did not look burned.

when powered up, p1 and p2 start light, and game just beeps over and over.

i did not make an offer, too work for me.

nice ones on ebay for $250.00

Thanks

Thanks for the response guys. I'm new to this hobby. Can I call myself a "collector" with only one game? I'm looking to add at least one more game to my "collection" but probably after I'm done repairing my Donkey Kong. I think I'll pass on this one too.

I'd love to see your collections and pick your brains some time. Keep me in mind if you come across a game for sale that you're going to pass on!

Jim, Bloomington.

While interesting, my wife about flipped her lid that I even thought about bringing home a non-working game prior to finishing my DK! Looks like it's just one at a time for me! She might soften up, but I need to give her a while. :)

that's a statement said by most men on this forum. Then you'll start saying you don't have enough space and "how did I get so many games?"

Chris a 1 is being kind! That thing was a train wreck. I thought it was going to be a great day. This Millipede and the Space Duel in Lexington. Glad I got pics of the Pede before I drove up there. Here are some pics of it to get an idea.

Maybe he meant -1.....as in negative 1:D

It's nice to see they took the time to put it on a pallet:confused:.

One at a time!!!?? You're never going to win. It's all about overwhelming them;). You gotta drag 10 home at once, with a little-kid-big-ass grin on your face....exclaiming, "Look what I got dear, isn't it great!".

A couple times of that, and she'll give up trying......SUBMISSION!:D

Its better if ed speaks for himself but...

i think ed is best at 1985- and older type games and monitor repairs

monitor chasis/power supply boards (atari,midway,ect..) and more

pm ed lutz - Great guy...

It's funny to find this thread now, I took that cabinet home just last week. It was listed again for $100. That's a good project for me, it's cheap, and part of the fun for me would be to see if I can fix it.

Monitor seems OK, so far it's only displaying some junk patterns, with at least one tile I can recognize from the game. I think it was called "faint dots" because the brightness was too low, adjusting the pot brightened it up.

The game didn't run at all when I got home, I traced the power back to the fuses, and it came to life (started beeping) when I probed one of them. One of the fuse holders had some corrosion. Cleaned that, now it boots to 1 beep, I replaced 1 RAM chip, now it boots to 4 beeps. I've got one more useable RAM chip that I can grab from work monday, if that's not enough I guess I'll be buying some 2101's.

What seems odd to me is that sometimes when I power it on, there is no beeping (same stuff on the screen), and sometimes the beeping sounds morphs between little squeals and pops and back to beeping. Some audio problem, I guess. It's kinda random. Voltages all seem to be OK.

I cleaned and lubricated the trackball, which helped it a lot. Not much wear inside, just some green gunk around one of the bearings. It seems good now, though it's been years since I've used a real trackball.
