color pattern generator

If you just need something for working on monitors at home, I recommend an Atari Tetris board. They are small, Jamma, and have excellent test patterns. Other boards like Klax should fit the bill too.

Alot of games especially jamma ones, have a color bar display in test mode.
I use pacman to do convergence, pause it on the grid. For general testing I use a tetris board. Like he said, its nice and small.

There are 2 vector testers and they are near impossible to find and usually rather expensive. Wico made an X-Y pattern generator and I believe it was mainly for Black and White monitors. The other is a tester whose name I don't recall off the top of my head. (I'm tired) Best bet is to get a working game to test the monitors.

Cheers Pat

Yes, I use Star Wars, but it's fragile as you know, I hate pushing my luck with it repeatedly

:) Thanks for the info

Wico made a XY pattern generator.
Benchmate made a model to test XY stuff - very few were made.
Hickok made one, even less were made, (I think Perfidious has one)

That's all I've ever seen

I've been thinking about doing this... it would be a cool project. Problem is actually getting around to doing it!

cheers

I think a kit for building a raster generator and one for an xy generator would sell well. I sure would like to end up with one of each at low cost! Heck, even sharing the files needed to order pcbs from batchpcb and a mouser project parts list would be awesome. Having 2 cheap handheld devices to cover all raster (color std and med res, b+w) and xy (color and b+w), and a fun diy project to boot, has me drooling.
