So I closed on a home last week and I'm getting some blacklight carpeting installed in a 20x28 finished room in the basement. Just wondering what you guys have done as far as what color to paint the walls? Right now it's a nice yellow (yuck) but I had been thinking about a dark blue. How important is the color to the overall effect of the black light? I plan to mount a few black lights to the walls and keep the recessed lighting as is so I have my options. I guess given that what might be a good color that works with and without the black light on? Thanks for any input and I'll have to get some pics of the room when it's done. :)

i painted my walls and ceiling black and put glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. my arcade is the same size and it took 10 four foot black lights to properly light it. my carpet has planets and stars, i cant remember the name. you can order it off of the internet. ed

Congrats on the new digs!
I think the darker the colors the better the blacklight effect will work. I have an open joist ceiling and I painted it with a product called dryfall from Sherwin Williams. Its flat black and it dries before it hits the ground so cleanup was a breeze. I also have very dark grey walls with one accent wall (bright orange) so it tends to be very dark. I have one 12 inch blacklight tucked into the joists and it seems to work very well for a mild effect which is what I was going for. It doesnt effect the art on the games but if you are standing there playing the game you are lit up quite well!

I would love the chance to go "all out" but right now its not in the cards :)

I used Dryfall flat black on my ceiling also and it works great. It has to be sprayed to work correctly but is worth the effort.

Just a quick pic....here is a shot of the game room before any work had been done. In a few short days the carpet will be in and the panting is mostly done. I went with a blue color that looks good in regular lighting and hopefully with the blacklight it will look even better. Unfortunately this is the only pic I grabbed of it but it gives you an idea of the space of I have. Once the carpet is in I'll have to snag a few more.

Edit: Here's a pic from Behr of the blue I went with. The grey they use is also what I painted the support beam and the underside of that ceiling covering the duct work. Both of these colors are part of their "Retro Recall" collection. I figure I can't lose with "Reboot" blue and "Game Over" grey. ;) At least right now I'm digging it so we'll see with the blacklights.
