Collection reduction: of this collection, what would you cut?

If you had these titles in your collection:

720
Assault - w/ Plus multi and stereo mod
Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters
Paperboy
Q*bert - w/ Doyle's multi
Star Wars - w/ ESB multi
Super Punch-Out!!

FunHouse
Jokerz!
South Park

And you were thinking of getting rid of 1-3 games and 1 pin, what would you cut?

I'm thinking for me it would be:

720 (hard as mofo, controls seem awkward, wondering after all these years if I ever liked the game or just loved the cabinet?)
Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters (not Atari's best use of Hall Effects, badly faded art nobody will ever repro properly, and has one of those annoying "no additional buy-in" deals on final levels)

Jokerz! (will never be perfect due to lack of repro stuff, and has a "double your score" shot gimmick which ruins it for most pin tourney enthusiasts)

I know it's a personal choice, but if I played all of the above games the 3 immediately above are the ones that consistently provide the least enjoyment and replay value.

Paperboy comes close to making the cut as well, but it is a pretty enjoyable title overall. I'm sure most pin guys would say ditch South Park. And a lot would just say the whole collection sucks. Opinions?

Just looking for opinions. Not going to listen to them, not expecting many to have one, just tossing it out there.

I agree with Jokerz! and Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters. But, I'd probably keep the 720 and ditch Super Punch-Out! instead.

I would say Escape! Not that it's a bad a game - found it more enjoyable 2 player. Is it a dedicated version?

It can be argued that SPO is kind of an odd duck in the group being the only Nintendo title. And it definitely looks out of place. But it may actually get the most play of any vid aside from the other odd one: Q*bert.

Maybe I just didn't play 720 enough? May need to revisit that one. I could just sell Jokerz! and EPRM. Need to go msg Superully and see if he still wants EPRM.

I'm sure MaximRecoil and/or RichieKnucklez would say keep both of those though. :D

Yup. Didn't realize when I bought it that there were only about 150 of them. Kind of cool, and I do enjoy the game, but the art (marquee and CPO) is just so faded. Shame, too, since the cabinet and side art on this one are awesome and I even fixed it up real nice.

As an aside the dedicated cabinet for this game is full of win. I love the sliding tray CP design, did Atari do this on any other cabs? The marquee is a bit annoying though, and routing fresh acrylic for it was a chore. :/

I believe Skulls and Crossbones had the same cab... Like I said, I found the gameplay to be a little blah and not much replay...

I would definitely hang on to the 720. Again, if it were me, I would also keep the SPO - liked it better than PO.... If you sell SPO....and regret it, who knows if you'll get another one or get one *reasonably* priced.

I agree with your original assessment and if that were my collection with plans of 2 vids / 1 pin cut:

720
Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters
Jokerz! pinball

720 is a large cabinet and I'm not into skateboarding. At first it seems really cool but it never caught my attention for more than a few minutes. Unique controls, unique gameplay. BUT, why do I want to play a video game of an activity I don't like doing in the first place? How about a game about going to the dentist for a root canal!

EFTPOTRM cool game and theme but like 720 never floated by boat or tooted my whistle.

JOKERZ! I've never really been into this pinball game. I have a friend who has had 2 and its his crown jewel of his collection and loves it. I'd take an early 80's solid state pinball of just about any good theme over this late 80's / early 90's wicked joker themed pinball.
I think with pinballs its personal preference and I'm not into the theme. I even HATE South Park the TV show but would keep SP over the JOKERZ! anyday if it was a matter of space.

You might want to consider which ones are going to be the hardest to replace. Personally, I would get rid of Qbert and Assault, because I don't care too much for them. And you could pick those up fairly easy. 720 is also a pretty easy game to find, but I personally love the heck out of it.

If you check out VAPS, there are only 18 dedicated Escapes listed. And fully working Paperboy, Star Wars, and SPO seem pretty hard to come by.

As for the pins, Jokerz! The other two are just way more fun.

I agree with your first assessment. 720, Jokerz and Robot Monsters. However, you could successfully argue the Qbert on just that its going to go down in the very near future.

I'm a huge pinhead, but I say that you let Jokerz and South Park go. I don't care for either game, personally.

Pin is a no brainer, lose the Jokerz. Vids are a little more tough. I'd lose, in order, (Escape From the) Planet of the Worthless Atari Game, Assault and 720.

I think ideally I'd like to see the collection down to:

Assault
Q*bert
Star Wars
Super Punch-Out!!

FunHouse
South Park (unless it gets old soon, which I can see coming, still enjoying it for now)

But it's hard to pull the trigger when I'm probably still stuck renting a storage garage. Giving myself the old "you'll get a house someday soon, hold on to it all and you'll have plenty of space when that happens" song and dance LOL. :/

More likely I will be visited by the bitch mother of most arcade games sales - financial necessity - before that happens.

Yeah for sure, the more I dig into fixing it up the less I care to even finish. This plastic mini-pf is a freaking joke. And it seems obvious to me there is a common issue with this game and the ramp motor and/or ramp flashers melting the center ramp. Almost wanna junk it, but it'd be a lot of wasted money. And doubt I will be able to get anything selling it.

(Escape From the) Planet of the Worthless Atari Game, Assault and 720.

Assault has sentimental value, otherwise I'd lose it (it is admittedly one of those "play it once, no need to ever play it again" titles).

Appropriate retitling for EPRM. My childhood memories of that one tricked me on that one, not as fun as remembered, almost feels beta-ish. It is like Atari's tribute to Professor Pac-Man.

I'd get rid of Jokerz and Assault. If you're looking to sell that 720 I might know a guy that's interested.
