Been in this hobby for something near 20 years I think. At least it seems like it. Anyways, been finding it harder these days to grab a project anymore. There were two posts on CL Aug 15th - one was in Glandorf, Ohio for a Commando for $69.00. Jumped right on that. The second was a Rampart for $325.00. I asked if $250 would work on the Rampart.
Got a message from both a couple days later that they had both been sold.
Man it seems the stars have to be in perfect alignment to where you catch it the very moment it's posted or it's just gone.
Seen a GRAIL item I'd been looking high and low for - a Sarge - of all places, all the way out in Utah on Ebay. Looked up shipping $756.00. Lordy be.
That's fine though I guess. Pretty much completely out of room until I figure something out.
I'm down to repairing them, trading for another in storage and working on that one. This winter's probably going to bite me on repairs already run and games that are working - now in storage that is not temperature controlled.

I always heard the older you get the softer it gets. Sorry had to.
Edit damn Joeycuda now my response looks stupid oh well.

LOL not sure what song that is from. "...shorter. And wrinklier and softer."? :p

And I somehow knew someone would post a reply like this. :D

Had to I figured it was better than busting a guys ball with needing a crane for his wife. We seen how that thread turned out maybe insulting someones significant other isn't the way to go just saying.

it got g3n3ric banned. Lets see what happens next.

I agree with the OP , it seems harder to find deals . Its the damn smart phones .

Yes and I'd probably one day enjoy owning a Road Runner, Indiana Jones and a Marble Madness. But that's about as modern as I'll go. I only collect classics.
There are so many I just pass on. Good example is the plethora of basketball arcade games - mounted on a wall---the arcade games by playstation and xbox---the classic rare and mint arcade games made of plastic 6" tall. The arcade games that have GI joe standing in front of them. The arcade games that are made by playschool. The pinball machines for ages 9 and under. The arcade games saying 'Garage Sale this weekend only' that includes a foosball table.
Through all that, I find 2 that I might be interested in, are about 2 days old - both sold. But they couldn't tell me that evening. They had to wait 2 days before they'd tell me they were sold.
But yea - finding and collecting arcade games is just the same as it used to be 10 years or 20 years ago, perhaps easier.
You'd said you'd been collecting for how long?

I agree it is harder now adays to find projects and also harder to find parts or people to repair stuff.

Part of the problem is there are not the discoveries of hordes of games anymore. Most have been found.

More have made it to the bone yard and have been shredded for parts. On the other side is there are more restored games.

More parts have gone bad, rusted, water damaged etc.

More people watching for stuff.

More people who left the hobby and the games are just sitting there.

People are more educated on the price of these things.

Prices on ebay have skyrocketed again.

Shipping cost have got out of hand. When I got into the hobby we could ship forward air with no crate for 60.00.

I remember on the early days of rgvac when ebay started and it opened up this hobby at first.

So you lowball on a 3 player trackball Rampart (after the game had been reposted on CL) and expect a positive outcome? That was snapped up the moment it was reposted with arcade spelled correctly.
