Sometimes I get suggestions from people wanting unusual arcade
related items, recently a friend told me he wanted to play his Colecovision
collection in his JAMMA cab and was willing to pay for the prototype.
Seemed odd to me but I agreed.

The requirements were:

1. Conversion from YPbPr to RGB capable of driving an arcade monitor

2. Powering the console from the JAMMA interface

3. Translating JAMMA arcade controls to 9pin Coleco controls for up to two players.

4. On board audio amp to convert the Coleco audio and drive a speaker in his cabinet.

The pics show the results.

What do you think? Weird or Cool?

WOW, put me on the list for the pre-order! ;-)

Seriously, though, I probably would buy one of these.....

I definitely say COOL! Ya know, Coleco's classic arcade ports were pretty dang good, and I think, for example, the Lady Bug and Space Panic ports were better than the original.

I may be in for one depending on price!

Interesting question will be how to deck out the control panel for the keypads and what to use? And will it support a track ball and steering wheel? I've often wondered how its Roller Controller and steering wheel games would do with arcade quality ones.

There wasn't a requirement for a roller controller or steering wheel, I will have to look
into that. It was more important to adapt to the standard JAMMA pinout with 2 joys
and 3 buttons per player.

To simulate the keypad we decided on using each players
joystick & buttons so Joystick U,D,L,R selects the row, buttons 1-3 select the column.

For keypad (1) its up+button1 through right+button3 (#)
to cover all 12 keypad functions

In my opinion converting any console to JAMMA is stupid. No offence intended to you for taking on the work though, looks like you've done a very professional job. Did you design those PCB's or are they readily available?

Jamma Dreamcasts rock! Poor mans Naomi.

Mike I think it looks awesome, great job - perhaps post this on Atariage --> Colecovision forum too

I agree I would take one too...

This could really benefit owners of Venture cabinets that have no working boardsets. Venture was an awesome port for the colecovision.

I still have my entire Colecovision collection in some tubs and I haven't gotten it out in at least 10 years. I would buy one of these in a heartbeat as I know it would breath new life into it and I could have it up and running along with my other games.

Guessing you would need to use more buttons in the arcade layout for games that used these controllers...

I want one too, I am planning on building a Coleco-based Montezuma's Revenge cabinet at some point in time, and converter I make won't be nearly as nice.

I might be tempted to agree but for nostalgia reasons I'm in for one. Colecovision was the first console I bought and owned. If you ever played one the joysticks were horrible.....

I have a console and would love to dust it off and play it.

It would be great to play the old classics with "professional grade" joysticks.
