Cold Air Returns are in the way, any HVAC guys here?

I swear the heating and cooling guy was really lazy when he put these in! Any suggestions on how to reroute them?

ducts are ducts is there room where nw holes could be cut and these installed on top versus on the bottom? Unless there is a beam up there in the way, thats what i would do.

Why do you want to move them? It would be labor/expense extensive. You could go with flex ducts as opposed to rigid but it looks good to me.Also with flex you would have to worry about rodents tearing them up.

Its your plenum and ducts that i guess are in the way not your return air btw. But in the way of what?

Yah, my head hits them when I sit on propcycle. I want to have the game there but those damn returns are so low! I was thinking about making some low profile ones out of sheet metal that are wide but like one 2 inches tall.

You have to be careful when making changes to your ductwork. Just one small change can really impact how the system works. How many returns do you have? Most houses only have one or two unless you have a really big house. If they are in fact returns you should be able to reroute them. The returns are not as critical as the output ducts.
I had to add a small return register in my basement to help remove humidity.

Yes they are returns, and there are 8 of them, My house is 2400 sq feet.

My house is 2400 sq ft too and I only have one return. Of course the air circulation is not the greatest either. The end rooms get stuffy if you dont keep the doors open.
Looking at you picture I bet you could tie those return into the side of the main trunk instead of them dipping down like they are. Any competent sheet metal guy can make quick work of it.
If you know anyone who does construction ask them if they know any hvac guys. My buddy hooks me up with contacts all the time. Those guys all do work on the side and typically charge about half what it would cost if you went through a contractor.
