Note to all of those who recently purchased the CoinUp 1UPs from me,
I have had at least 2 occurances where people have had trouble using them in Taito cabs. I took some voltage readings of one installed on a Jungle King and found that after 'borrowing' some power from the game PCB as the CoinUp is designed to do, the VCC voltage and the signals going to the game PCB were in the 2V range. That's not enough. Not enough to power the CoinUp and can can cause erratic coin and start behavior.

I replicated the situation here in the lab using the same size pullups in the game. If I hookup the +5v to the terminal block though... everything works just fine since the coinup is now getting plenty of power.

So a word of advice to those who are having issues.. try hooking up +5 to the device and see if that helps.

My apologies for the churn.... all of the games I have tested to date (with the exception of the Taito's) have worked fine so they must have stronger pullups.

What about midway games like Burgertime & Kickman?

I wasn't able to test in blkdog's burgertime but if you have it installed hopefully you can measure the voltage between the CoinUp's +5v terminal and the ground terminal . If that voltage is below 3 volts you would need to hook up a 5V line to the coinup.

I finally got around to messing with the coin ups again and after killing myself the first time for a few hours trying to figure out why these things were not working. Now Im proud to say they are working 100% in my Taito Frontline, Taito Wild Western, Taito Tin Star and Miday Kickman now. The +5 was diffently the problem and must be hooked up to the coinup in order for them to work. I would suggest hooking up the +5 on any machine because my Tin Star was working 95% and after hooking up the +5 it worked 100% like it was suppose too. Now to finish the rest of my games. Thanks for researching and tracking down the problem right away. Now I'm a happy customer. A must have for Taito game owners to get your games off that solid free play screen for those games that have free play and those that don't just push the player one or two button and start playing. No more reaching in the coin door! Thanks again Adam.

can't say for those titles but works fine in my tron. Kick man is MCR II like tron so I would assume it would work fine. Not sure about burgertime as it's a slightly different set up. y guess would be that it would work though.

In my last post I did note that it worked 100% in my Kickman which at first it wasn't until I hooked up the +5 to the coinup device.

Awesome.... this is what I wanted to hear.
My pleasure man. I updated the manual to reflect the possible need to hook up the +5.
