I definately need to get something else in my Shuttle, the ones I have in there I'm not happy with...for the most part behind the backglass it's mostly all regular bulbs which I want gone because they're hot and sucking too much power on my board which is already questionable..

I don't have the time, tools (broke my multimeter LAWL), or know-how to find out why the power coming out for the GI and controlled lights is weak. All I can say is it works great with LEDs, when it's all normal bulbs, there's not enough current there to light everything. Mostly an issue with the controlled lamps, but they're all LEDs at this point and the problem has been gone ever since.

I'm thinking about buying a bunch of supers, but I'm worried the light will be too spotty and directional. This is the problem I currently have under the plastics. I put 3-LEDs under there, they go straight up and don't illuminate evenly on the plastics, and the middle of the playfield is just DARK and it's annoying. Also don't want my backglass to look spotty if these go in there...

Anyone know if the supers will cover it, or if I should just suck it up and buy the Retros? I bought one of each previously and I like the way the retros look and light up, but they don't offer a bulk discount on them, and I'm half considering just ordering 100 supers and being done with buying bulbs for a while. :p

Have you thought about using #47s in the backbox instead of LEDs? 47s use a lot less power than 44s and stay cooler. Just a thought if you can't find LEDs you are happy with.

The 44's will might help. I have some frosted bulb Pinballlife LEDs in back box of my Taxi and it's just too spotty. I would imagine supers would be even more so.

Yeah. I'm probably going to order some 47's just to try them out. Some of the backbox is already LED. Found out that if i put cool whites on the front of the shuttle and normal bulbs in the rear looks like the jet fire is illuminating the shuttle from the back, looks cool, IMO.

Mainly just trying to reduce the heat and power of the bulbs at the top behind the words, theres two lines of bulbs. :/

Any opinions on using them as GI in places where light would shine through but the bulbs wouldnt be directly visible? Tryin to get more light out into the center of the playfield hopefully and all the gi is behind standup targets. :p

I have supers in both of my backboxes in my pins. It really brightens things up quite a bit.

Not the best quality pics but you get the idea. First pic shows comparison with HS2 with supers in BB and GI. CFTBL with incandescent. Second pic is with LED supers in both. I have Cointakers in both.

Hmm, well, I guess that isn't TOO spotty.... Might be worth a shot, Frax.

Yeah, I'd say order a few and see what you think. They seem to bother some people and not others. Everyone (non pin people) comment the before and after how much better it looks with the supers.

EDIT: I'm running Cointaker's kit in each but both have the super's...

Yep, I've used that coupon all three times I've ordered from them, lol. I just can't seem to make up my mind on this. I was really happy with the PBL ones for a while, but I tried to play Shuttle in the dark last night and realized that I CAN'T because the glare from the backglass and there's no light on the playfield makes it impossible to see.

Gonna order the 47's for the backglass where there's still builbs and try a few supers on the GI lighting. I'll post some pics when I get them in, try them out in the backglass first and see how they look. Eating my shoe on shipping with these small orders, ugh.

Here's a shot of my Joker Poker. It has:
- Pinball Life leds beneath most of the inserts,
- Cointaker Retros beneath the playfield plastics,
- Cointaker 4+1's in the pop bumpers,
- Cointaker warm supers behind the backglass,
- Cointaker warm super flashers behind the "Gottlieb Joker Poker" text,
- Red supers behind red text "shoot again, game over" and beneath any red inserts.

You don't have to put bulbs in each socket in the backbox to get good light.....and it saves power. We did that alot in our game rooms.....

Tell you, half the reason I am ordering more bulbs is because the blue 4+1 I got from cointaker is either defective or blue is just a total piece of shit brightness wise. It barely lights up the pop whereas the red one puts a huge red spot on the top of the pop.

Getting an ultra blue...hopefully it does the trick.

cointaker will be at the TPBF in 22 days... you can just buy them there and not worry about shipping them.....

I know, but I need the machine to look good AT the show, not after. ;)

I'm still gonna buy a bunch of bulbs while I'm there. Just buying the "essentials" right now and finding out what I really need and like. The part killing me on shipping is really Pinball Life for once, not really cointaker, lol. This order is costing me 3$ from CT...

My order of 3 pop caps, 12 pop yokes, some bumper cap screws, 4 boxes of 47 bulbs, 6 star posts, and some target backing foam?

13$ shipping.

WTF!!!!

I've been real impressed with the light output of PBL's 3LEDs. I find them to disperse the light as good as, if not better than Cointaker's Supers. They appear less spotty in backbox applications and throw the light out quite a ways around it's sides. I now only buy Cointakers when it is something PBL doesn't have in LEDs.

I have PBL 3-leds under there. Quarter sized spotlights on my plastics is what I got.

You can clearly see 3 bright spots on the left, two on the right.

LOL @ this BS...

looking to see if I can get all my stuff through marco cheaper this time around..

Box of 47's is 3$ each, but if you buy TEN, they're 1.50 each. So if you buy 5-9 boxes, you're paying just as much OR MORE that it costs to get 10 boxes. Christ.

*Edit* Literally 3 cent price difference, but I'm STILL going to go with PBL..why? Because boxes of bulbs are ONE DOLLAR no matter how many you get.

Do they look like that in person or does it just show up like that when photographed? I ask because I used PBL's 3LEDs in my BSD, exsculsively, and they don't look like that at all. I even have a few mixed in with the CT Supers in the backbox of my DH, and they don't spot the trans.

Now the single LEDs from PBL will spot like hell behind a translite, but work great for smaller inserts. As cheap as they are, they are a hell of a bargain for doing inserts.

They look like that in person. It's not as dramatic, but it's definitely visible and the entire face of the plastic is not lit.

All the inserts in shuttle are the wide angle PBL single leds. Have had absolutely no issue with them, and 99% of the LEDs under inserts in my Pinbot are the same.
